Altra 9448096 Bookcase with Sliding Glass Doors, White

This bookcase arrived by UPS in absolutely perfect shape during the given time window. For several days prior to delivery UPS said they hadn't picked it up yet. On delivery day I didn't check, thinking that it would surely be a few more days. However I heard the truck outside and surprise! It was here. The UPS man brought it into my house for me.

My friend is a manufacturing engineer and he volunteered to assemble it for me. He found it quick and simple to assemble. He used the screwdriver attachment for his electric drill, and said that made assembly much easier and that it would have taken longer with a manual screwdriver. I think it took him about an hour and a half (though I had unpacked everything before he started). The doors slide very smoothly but he had to work on one of them a little because it wasn't straight (it closed leaving a bigger gap at the top than the bottom). That was the only difficulty with assembly and it wasn't much.

The only negative I can think of is that the instructions specify that the shelves can only hold 30 pounds or else they will bend. I expected this, but wish that this had been revealed in the amazon description rather than only revealed upon receiving the product. Anyway, if you have heavy books you might want to weigh them. I put my heaviest books on the bottom (which can hold 60 pounds), and put paperbacks and lighter books on the shelves above. I fit almost 4 boxes of books in this bookcase. It held more than I expected, and I am pleased. I plan to order another to use as an extra cabinet in my kitchen.

I've been searching for just the right bookcase for my new home. I knew what I wanted, just had to find it. (I can't believe how expensive bookcases are!) This bookcase had the look I was going for but I was afraid to order it, thinking it would be cheap quality. However after more searching, and not willing to pay the higher prices, I ordered this bookcase. I am very satisfied with the quality. It is very nice and sturdy. It took a little longer than I anticipated putting it together, but it wasn't hard. It is an attractive piece and I recommend it to anyone.

This is a very nice piece of furniture. Not as tall as I had expected, but even better looking than the picture. The doors slide smoothly and the finish is good. It holds more than you would think.
Wish I could afford another one.

This is a nice bookcase for $200. If you price other cases with glass doors, you will find you can pay an awful lot of money, especially if you want real wood shelves. It comes flat packed, so you have to assemble everything except the doors yourself, but it is straight-forward and it went well for us. The feet are adjustable, so if your floor is slightly uneven you may be able to deal with it. The unit is backed with two pieces of thin board, if we'd had something solid on hand I might have taken the time to paint it and substitute that. There are holes in the top/back (where it is substantial) to apply screws to fasten the unit to the wall. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that the doors don't fit properly, leaving a gap on each side at the bottom. We may be able to fix that but haven't tried yet. It will hold a lot of books. I weighed mine to be sure I didn't put anything like the 30 lb limit on each shelf (60 lb on the bottom shelf), but I think unless you've got something like an encyclopedia (and who does these days?) you can probably just about fill it. Still, decorators say you should have 1/3 space, 1/3 books and 1/3 artwork. Grandma's picture can be in a really heavy frame and still come in under the limit ;-)

Received this order today and was disappointed with the fact that there was damage to 3 items in the box. I contacted Ameriwood using the number on the front of the product manual, they informed me that the product is imported and it would take 6-8 weeks for the replacement parts to come in.

The customer service rep informed me that they could not provide any further assistance and I would need to contact the seller. Boxing up an 86# bookcase and returning it to UPS is not a project I would like to take on. The book case itself is very nice and would have made a nice addition to our room. I would advise shopping at a brick and mortar store so you have the option to return the product if necessary.

I love this bookcase with the price of $139.00. Its so easy to assembled. I called regarding the 2 shelves(re: short of around 1/4 inches) The company have very good service. I got Federal Express delivered promptly the replacementof the 2 shelves. I 'm very happy with the result.I would like to order another one,but Amazon change the price .

The item was well packaged. There was no damage to the packaging or book case. It went together well. I noticed on another review that they did not get the back on square and it caused the dors to not be even. I put the bookcase on the floor front side down and put the backing on it. I lightly tapped each side until it just about fit. Then I took the backing off and held it by the crease in the middle. I slowly let it slide back in place. It slid right into place this time, matching corners perfectly. It is solid and nice looking. I did not use the round balls on the bottom. I just put glued felt on the bottom.

Wow! For well under $200, this book case is fabulous! It arrived packaged very securely. No damage or missing parts. As someone who can't be trusted to assemble anything properly, I did have a capable friend put it together for me. He just took his time and followed the directions/used common sense. It took about an hour, but the finished product is sturdy and very attractive.

In theory, the bookcase is very elegant. However, when you actually receive and open the package, the bookcase is made from very cheap material. Also, the packaging was done so poorly, that over half of the pieces were damaged.

I still attempted to build the bookcase, hoping that the damaged parts would not be a problem because it would be very difficult to return. Once everything was assembled, the sliding doors did not fit properly into the grooves. As a result, they are not able to be closed and the whole bookcase looks slanted.

I called their customer service number and reordered two new doors as well as side panels, but it has been almost 3 weeks, and I have yet to receive my shipment or any update.

I would highly recommend NOT purchasing this item.

I was shopping for bookcases at Macy's and was flabbergasted that these cost anywhere between $200 to $1500 upwards! But of course, some come with doors and are made of solid wood. This bookcase is a decent alternative. All I want is to stylishly store my books. I used to have one from Ikea with the normal beige color but this one is strikingly in a different white color. I love it! My wife loves it, too and that what counts, right? We're ordering three more for the kid's room, guest room, and kids' play room.
