Excellent monitor, great portrait image quality, needs sRGB support

I bought this monitor to use in portrait mode and I was extremely pleased to find that its picture quality in portrait mode is exactly the same as in landscape mode, which is uncommon. The P2414H has one of the narrowest bezels available in a 24" which also lended itself well to my application. It has a business-class non-reflective screen surface which I prefer. Startup sync is nearly instantaneous via DisplayPort. Overall image quality is quite good.

I liked that the OSD can be rotated to portrait mode, although it doesn't work automatically via a rotation sensor, that would have been a nice plus. I'm using the integrated USB hub for mouse and keyboard and it works fine.

Included cables comprise a USB host-to-target for the built-in USB hub, a DisplayPort, and an analog VGA. A snap-on plastic cover is also included which masks the cable connections on the back of the monitor which helps cosmetically if people can see the back.

I would give this unit 5 stars except for some reason Dell failed to include sRGB compliance in the image presets. I notice the P2414H is Windows Logo'd, and I thought that sRGB was required for Windows logo. sRGB in presets is a quick way to set up 6500K color temperature and 2.2 gamma, so in situations where I can't use a real color calibrator I like to have sRGB preset so I don't have to fiddle with color and contrast settings. Dell supplies an ICM profile with their "monitor driver" download, but it has only one profile for "P2414H D6500" rather than multiple profiles for the different color presets available via the OSD, and it's unclear exactly what settings the ICM profile corresponds to, so it's essentially useless.Read more ›

Yellow tint needs to be addressed by Dell

I am just getting ready to return the third sample of this monitor that has a YELLOW TINT issue. My original order was for two P2414H monitors to use side by side on a Mac Pro. One of the monitors from my original shipment has a beautiful crisp, clear, and color accurate display. The other monitor from the same delivery had a very annoying yellowish tint that affected all colors displayed on the screen and cannot be corrected by calibration. I returned the defective one for a replacement and received another monitor with the yellow tint problem. I returned the new replacement and received a third monitor with the same yellow tinted display.

I have one sample of a correctly functioning monitor so I know that Dell is capable of manufacturing an excellent product. I've tried to get Amazon to contact Dell to get the issue resolved. So far, all Amazon will do is continue to replace the monitors that I return or provide a refund.

The experience has been extremely frustrating. I recommend not purchasing the P2414H until Dell acknowledges the problem, recalls the defective units, and FIXES the root cause. All of the units are Rev A00 (including the one that does not exhibit the problem). They were manufactured in July 2013.

Good value for gaming and entry-level photo work

The display (mine's an A00 rev) has pretty uniform brightness and respectable color reproduction for the price range ($200 plus or minus $20) especially with calibration. I don't have the yellow tint issues others are reporting; that sounds to me like a warranty-replaceable defect. There is IPS glow but it's unobtrusive. The backlight is non-PWM, that is to say the brightness is controlled via direct current, so people sensitive to backlight flicker will notice none on this monitor.

Input lag is unnoticeable to me (under 6 ms) and there's minimal ghosting. About the only improvement gaming-wise would be faster refresh rate, but that's still largely the domain of TN panels. I do notice more fluidity in the 144 Hz Asus VG248QE when playing twitchy shooters (e.g. CS:GO) but unless you're really into your shooters, 60 Hz panels like the P2414H are fine. For other genres this display is excellent.

The OSD and physical buttons are utilitarian and straightforward; they do their job well. I appreciate the ability to turn off the "powered on" indicator LED.

The stand is not the most robust ever created but it's entirely serviceable; it looks nice, it's sturdy, and it's easily attached to and removed from the monitor. Adjustments are all straightforward and easy to manipulate (there's tilt, swivel, rotate, and height adjustment). It looks nice in portrait or landscape. A 100 mm VESA mount is present, too.

For about $100 more one can get the U2414H (Ultrasharp) which is very similar to this monitor in terms of the display characteristics and stand but has thinner bezels on the top and sides, 4x USB 3.0 ports and HDMI inputs (among other differences). I didn't need any of those things so I'm content with the P2414H.

Nice monitor

I needed a monitor to match with my Mac mini. After trying different monitors this one is the best one I choose. Only dissatisfaction is the location of the USB ports are hard to locate for quick change of external device.

I spent the last month studying monitors in the 23-24" range and finally settled on this unit, as I have good luck with Dell monitors. My primary use is home applications and gaming (Crysis, Sins of a Solar Empire, Star Craft, etc...). Out of the box it came nearly completely calibrated...only very minor updates made. Nice clean look and terrific flexibility in the stand (tilt, height, swivel, horizontal to vertical).

Also considered the mid-range of Asus, HP, Dell, and BenQ.
