[edit] Talk: Response to deletion of Aspektz

Aspektz is from the Don Mills area and North York, not like you mentioned in your rebuttal of the page.

The video from VideoFACT article where he is cited is found at http://watch.muchmusic.com/video-playlists/video-playlistsmuchvibe/clip229247 or on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pvNq3sKQ_w

If you can OK it I will rebuild it different for him and jDiggz as well which has typos all over it

With a #1 single in Toronto and a video in rotation on Much Music, it is hardly a7 speedy removal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.176.62.184 (talkcontribs)

Just jumping in with a little more info for you. The most recent deletion of Aspektz was as a copyvio. I've left some advice for this editor at my talk page. Cheers!--Fabrictramp | talk to me 00:46, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hostile user over on Portal:Current events

WikiTony (talk · contribs) has been causing quite a ruckus over at Portal:Current events, using abusive edit summaries and violating WP:OWN by unilaterally adding and removing content (he has a rather long history of this, actually). It might be a good idea to keep an eye on things over there in case he continues - he has been warned twice. --Coredesat 03:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there mate, I see you're online. Please see Wikitony's incivil attacks as responses to both me and Core's talk pages. Could you please warn him? Alternatively, would you prefer it if I took this to WP:ANI? – Chacor 10:14, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] about civility

Hi Capitalistroadster,

First, thank you for you concern for your wiki-brothers and sisters. That being said, you are the 4th person to approach me on the topic. As I told the previous 3 people, i do not appreciate being ganged up on. In your comment you even said "there are reports of..." This implies that you did not even research this on your own but are rather acting on rumor and gossip. If you had actually done your homework you would see that my 2 latest entries are both friendly. I even called one of them "extending the olive branch." Go ahead. Look it up, because you obviously did not before you made your comment on my talk page. I hope you put more effort into researching your topics for articles you edit than you did on this subject. This is not a personal attack, just a response to your criticism. My apologies if this is not written in the friendliest manner, but it is the only way i can defend myself against your allegations. Also, please keep in mind that a personal attack against me is what prompted me to be "not nice." I do not see anyone disciplining this other person. I have seen your name editing current events. Do you honestly believe that a plane crash in moscow that nobody died in (i dont think anyone was even hurt) is worthy of international attention on our current events page just because the BBC covers it (that was his actual reason for including it!)? I mean all of this in good faith and it is only because i respect your opinion that i am responding to your criticism. Peace and love, WikiTony 21:07, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Telectronics

Hi fellow Canberran. You have Telectronics on your renovation rescue list. I wondered if you would like to revisit. I think we have been successful in de-esclating at that article with good references and firm application of policy. A related article Noel Gray is in dire need of removation - written by his son I believe who set the tone with his opening gambit just over a year ago on the article talk page: There have been attempts to charcater assasinate my late father both before he died and now after his passing. I am going to deffend his repuattion and with the help of his collegues will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did do what his backgound claims. Dam you who are trying to defame a dead man![1] The apparently same editor has questioned my agenda (and identity) at Talk:Nucleus Limited - I have responded there but really need someone else to take up the baton for Wikipedia verifiability. I have appealed also at WP:AWNB. Regards --Golden Wattle talk 22:30, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Effects of global warming on Australia page completely rewritten - 40 references

The article now has over 40 referenced statements and is based largely on a report prepared by Australia's premier scientific research organisation the CSIRO. The referencing of the article now compares very favourably with most other articles I have looked at. The article has no POV. The report on which it is based was prepared for the Business Round Table. It ought not be deleted now, even if it should have been before. Could each person who has recommended deletion please review and reconsider your view. Thanks dinghy 07:03, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability - English football leagues and Australian sports leagues

Hi Capitalistroadster,

I am hoping to develop some notability guidelines for minor sports leagues in Australia, starting with Australian football and then using that as a base to bring other Australian sports in if needed. Two things:

  • You mentioned here a notability policy for English football leagues: Do you know where I may find it?
  • Any contribution you would like to make to make to help develop guidelines would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help.--Mattinbgn/ talk 06:37, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] march 25

hey CR,

I think it was you who added the day March 25 to the current events portal. I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the display. I hope you are seeing what im seeing. It looks like the march 25 is not in the propper "box" like all the other days. Look specifically at how the bullets in the other days are directly under the greenish bar with the day on it. 3/25 is justified to the middle of the page (i think). I tried to fix it but I simply don't know how. Hope you can help. peace and love WikiTony 02:15, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Could you please give me a little bit more information on reasons behind deleting Captcha Exchange Server? --Akral 19:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Presumably its article did not give any indication of notability and I could not find any. Capitalistroadster 20:22, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rabbi Apple

Getting there. Dont rely on WW in Australia, it's considered indiscriminate. Just mention it once as a source for background uncontroversial stuff. There still some stuff like "he has always been interested in __" which is taken as puffery & could be cut. Otherwise it might work OK; I'll comment at the AfD tomorrow. DGG 06:51, 18 June 2007 (UTC) It may be reliable, but it will be challenged by those who dont know it, --that's not an uncommon situation. If people want to remove the article they'll challenge anything they think might be a problem, and the safest thing to do is just to list it once. If you want to establish it as reliable, best way is to write a WP article about it--and since it is sure to be wanted again, that would be a very good idea--when you do, ask me if it seems solid--, but for the moment you first want to get this article kept & the less arguing it takes, the better. DGG 06:59, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I have rewritten the article reducing the number of quotes and adding other sources. Capitalistroadster 07:11, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Looks better, but still has a slight resume flavor. AfD is withdrawn, but at this point it would have been enough for at least a weak keep, if you want to go "bare minimum". --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 19:12, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Input from Garrie

I have looked at the article as you requested.
I have adjusted the capitalisation of the sections to be in line with WP:MSH. Basically, section headings use the same capitalisation as article headings ie "Religious leadership" not "Religious Leadership".
The article has improved dramatically since it was listed for AfD. In line with WP:N, it provides evidence that Apple has been the subject of a wide range of coverage in a wide range of publications.
Is there a Jewish wikiproject that could look at getting an article up for the following, which seem important:
  • Great Synagogue of Sydney
  • Sydney Beth Din
Who do you think would be appropriate to come up with an article for Australian Council of Christians and Jews?
While he was an Army Chaplain, did he stay as a Captain the whole time or did his appointment as senior rabbi bring recognition through millitary rank? (All chaplians enter as Captains, I think some move up through the rank structure pretty much in an honorary manner but they are well regarded irrespective of rank worn.
Does he continue to write in his retirement? "He's only 72!"
A lot more is said about his website, than any of his books individually.
The references to the National Library of Australia are inconsistent. I suggest the following format:

''The Jewish Way: Jews and Judaism in Australia'' (2004) <ref>[http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?SC=Author&SA=Apple%2C%20Raymond%2C&PID=8054&BROWSE=2&HC=1&SID=2 ''''The Jewish Way: Jews and Judaism in Australia'' catalogue entry at National Library of Australia website]</ref>

You want to show individual links so you can't combine them.
I don't think there are too many uses of the same reference source to split the notes from the references.
Reference 10 is to a google cached search. I don't know if that makes it as a reliable source? Maybe it should be be copied to Archive-it instead.
Have you installed the widget for doing an automated peer review? I have done one, you might like to see the results. It comes up pretty positively, but has some positive suggestions.
User:RandomHumanoid left a comment at the talk page you might need to be jewish or a priest to understand. I certainly don't understand it, but I'm not into organised religion.
I hope my comments were what you were looking for, "I have rewritten this article with references. I would be grateful if you could take a look" is a bit cryptic - I didn't know if it was a "how am I going so far" or a "is it good enough yet"? The article is well and truely "good enough" but it could be better if you are dedicated to improving it. Nobody would blame you for stopping now.
Good work at keeping the article from deletion. Personally I !voted speedy delete simply because of the comment at the AfD that the speedy tag was removed incorrectly without comment / discussion, and I will always vote that way unless it was a blindingly inappropriate use of a speedy tag.Garrie 23:35, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Current events

When I go to Portal:Current events, the latest version that I see says July 19, Wednesday (I know the 19th was a Thursday), and neither the 19th nor the 20th is transcluded. When I go to the history, I see that you added the entries for the 19th and 20th, and when I see the version of the page that is the result of your last three edits, it clearly shows the 20th, and it shows the 19th as Thursday. Any clues as to why this is happening? My computer was turned off overnight and this is the first time I've gone to the Current events page since I rebooted. Help? Corvus cornix 21:15, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

OK, I changed "Portal:Current events/Inclusion|2007|07|20" to "Portal:Current events/Inclusion", and that seems to work. Corvus cornix 21:34, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if it's the fact that I'm at another computer (although they both use IE7), or because you re-edited the page with the latest version, but it looks okay now. Corvus cornix 01:31, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] academic bios

Suggestion: since there are a number of people around unfamiliar with the academic world who do not recognize that even a full professor at a major university is likely to be notable, and who frequently nominate these articles for deletion--sometimes even by Speedy--it would b advisable to include a little more info: their major publications, their honors and awards, the most important work they did with a link to the WP article on the subject, etc. I always try to defend these articles, but it is even better if they are never nominated--and this way they will be more informative as well.DGG (talk) 23:08, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Delete. Article contains no references from reliable sources and I can find none. It amused me that the article states that Franklin was born in 1991 and his career as a racing car driver began in 1994 which seems implausible

Thats what you wrote, about Peter, He bagan Go-Kart racing at 3 years of age, You ever herd the Late Formula 1 great, Senna, well he bagan racing at 3, Most motor racing greats started at 3, which is the youngest aloud, although know in Australia you have to be 6, but that only come in around 1999.

Technically, I didn't withdraw the nomination but I probably should have and it would have been speedclosed in any case. I ran across it while spellchecking random articles, noticed it was prodded for notability and myself suspected he was notable so I removed the prod. However, I assumed the editor who added the prod had a good faith reason to think he wasn't so I sent it to AFD to both give him his shot and to get opinions from more experienced editors on whether or not the subject is notable.

I was thinking about doing that for some other prodded articles. Do you think that's a good idea or is it best just to remove the prod and let the prodder AFD it if he really wants it gone? --Ron Ritzman 02:55, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the speedy deletion notice from the article, since if the article is inappropriate, it can be reverted to this revision. That said, I agree that unless he is found guilty of forgery or unless we otherwise have a reliable source for it, we can't state it as a fact; on the other hand, there does exist a suspicion, apparently based on good evidence, that the works are indeed forgeries. [edit] US Electoral College

I removed your item on Portal:Current events on the US Electoral College because while it mentioned that the electors were meeting today, it was primarily and titled as an op-ed and I don't think opinion pieces should be in CE. Per WP:RS, "Opinion pieces are only reliable for statements as to the opinion of their authors, not for statements of fact".

I looked around for a news article on the Electoral College meeting today and all were either primarily opinion pieces as well, or a short statement about the electors voting in what is primarily a formality with a bit of history, which is not a sufficiently notable event. A faithless elector would likely not be notable either, unless it significantly changed the landscape, something highly unlikely in this election.

I agree with the sentiments of the NYT op-ed and I think that it should be noted within Wikipedia, but I would suggest using it and sources like it to improve US Electoral College, citing significant movements to alter the status quo. Galatee (talk) 11:07, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CE Calendar: While we were sleeping

Check the following items out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal%3ACurrent_events%2FCalendar&action=history&year=2008&month=2&limit=6

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Current_events/Calendar&diff=270146487&oldid=193846104

Apparently, an anon user added "year" to the parsed "Date:" readout just under a year ago, probably becuase the term "Date:" is defined as a month, the ordinal day of a month, and a year. Nobody seemed to care. I just now noticed this 'cause currently the "Date:" readout (with my monobook css skin) is very tight, almost forces a line break. It got me thinking about adding a parser function or two to the CE Calendar to just streamline it a little more (without slowing the server[s] down), and changing the word "Date:" to "Day:", thereby restoring the less crowded design you last edited on 2/24/08 @ 22:12 UTC. That's the bottom edit on that history query result.

I'll be experimenting with this overnight, and be back in touch. There's no talk page for the CE Cal as it is, so I may move this talk item there if it suits you. Or any other interested party.

[edit] Update: rendered a Golden master

This can be found here.

Now the sublinked day-of-year pages need to be ported from the User space to the portal space.

I'm thinking of bringing this online for real in the same manner as DST; over Sat nite to Sunday. There's plenty of docs to peruse (as visible docs and commenting in the page-code), so anybody who's done this can re-orient themselves.

  • UPDATE: Went live 24 hrs. early. Don't know where I'll be in 24 hrs. - - - Schweiwikist (talk) 08:44, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Question: does it behoove us, to request page protection . . . for it? - - - Schweiwikist (talk) 10:02, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Now if only the crystal ball editors would leave future months alone till they start. I'll put that discussion somewhere else.

The front end will look no different. It's just an auto-updating transclusion, like other parts of the portal. A digital "tear-off" day-by-day calendar.

BTW, won't be at a computer at 00:00 UTC this evening, looks like.

- - - Schweiwikist (talk) 22:27, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Update: As dynamic as a portal box can get

Added "noincluded" navigation controls to the individual calendar subpages, and then cooked up expiration-based {{Db-g7}} tagging (gradually folding in that added code on each upcoming day). The tag only appears when the portal box page for the day "goes stale", and ceases rendering on the portal @ midnight UTC. Now you can set, check, double-check, and forget—a batch of days at a time, by copying/pasting and making a few simple edits. Very cool.

. . . in 20 minutes. He or she is somewhere north of you, possibly further east (didn't check). So you can thank them.

Here's the code that works every time as long as you are past 00:00:00 UTC, which for you is well into the day:

{{Portal:Current events/DateHeader2|{{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}|{{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}|{{subst:CURRENTDAY}}}}
<!-- All news items below this line -->
*<!--First item goes here. (remove this please)-->
<!-- All news items above this line -->|}

Just gotta use that preview button. Note the extra "|}" at the end, which closes the box around that day. On Sunday, the first line will read:

{{Portal:Current events/DateHeader2|2009|4|5}}

which produces:

Cool, huh? You can create the page before midnight UTC, but you'll have to enter the correct numbers manually for year|month|day. It won't display on Current events until the UTC clock "strikes 12".

As part of a project funded by the European Commission (QLectives), we are collecting and analysing data to study quality control mechanisms and inclusion/deletion policies in Wikipedia. According to our records, you participated in a large number of AfD. We are currently soliciting editors with a long record of participation in AfD discussions to send us their feedback via a very informal survey.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes and is available at this URL. Should you have any questions about this project, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks for your help! --DarTar (talk) 10:14, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of Tim Dudfield

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Tim Dudfield has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2004; notability unclear

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SlimVirgin talk contribs 06:28, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] T:ITN Question

I seen a problem with an In The News story, so I made a correction, but being a total noob to that area, I am not sure if I did it right. Could you take a look and let me know? - NeutralhomerTalk • 21:12, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Excellent. Never tried to get a story on the front page (well, ITN wise) so I wasn't sure. Guess I am not as much of a noob as I though. Thanks for your help. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 22:06, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Admin help needed

Hi Cap -I've got a problem which needs an uninvolved admin's help. There's a problem user at South Island nationalism. He's playing within the rules, but he's definitely "playing". A few months ago, User:Teroamahai seems to have noticed that South Island nationalism existed and created his own North Island nationalism, which was quickly deleted (there's no such movement). Since then, he's been active at the SI-nat article, firstly launching an attack on it in the talk page, then adding incorrect information (with support from an anon, which is almost certainly the same editor). He's now started "working to rule" by excising large chunks of the article because they weren't well-sourced. That's certainly within WP's policies and guidelines, but it's the way it's being done, after an extremely cursory note on the talk page, that is a cause for concern, as is his contention that he'll remove more unless someone can think up a reasonable reason for their inclusion (he's never listened to reasonable reason regarding the article in the past, it's to be seriously doubted that he will now).

Problem is, I'm too involved to do much - I've made quite a lot of edits to the page, and have been involved in South Island movements (including designing one of the flags shown on the page). I've protected the page after the latest bout of removals - something I probably shouldn't have done, though I've made a reasonable justification for it on the talk page, I think. Can I ask you to have a look at the page and remove my protection, and either leave it unprotected or add your own protection as you see fit? Cheers, and sorry to get someone else involved in this! Grutness...wha? 01:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] 2010 cargo plane bomb plot

Hi Capitalistroadster,

I noticed that you mentioned the 2010 cargo plane bomb plot in the current events portal recently. I just wanted to let you know that I have started an article on it in case you wanted to link to it or had any suggestions for expanding it. Thanks! – Novem Lingvae (talk) 01:16, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Current Events

Hey, I was wanting to move the article you just posted in Nov 5, current events about Greece resuming flights, back to Nov 4 as that is the date posted by the source, but than I realized there is no set rule about this. So, I was hoping that you would start using the dates posted by the sources to determine which page to put the article on, as to avoid conflict based on where editors live. Let me now what you think and thanks for all you contribute to the current events, Passionless (talk) 00:37, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh sorry, what I meant was that I think articles should be posted depending on which day the article was published according to the source, irrelevant of any dates within the article.Passionless (talk) 03:31, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, now I've started to think about this too much, I think I will start using local time/day when it matters, and generally ignore other people's sources dates. You can ignore all my above ramblings, Passionless (talk) 05:30, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Troubling User

Please keep an eye out for contributions on the current events portal made by user Uhnix. Uhnix has been using references from an online news source called voice of Jihad, which asserts that the Taliban have the right to take over Afghanistan, and that Nato forces must die. Furthermore Uhnix has used "Invaders" and "terrorist forces" when referring to Nato trues on the current event portal. All this is incredibly biased, and must be reverted when caught. I have been doing so already. Thanks for you time, Sopher99 (talk) 21:32, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

[edit] misleading edit summaries.

I found your edit summary misleading: You said it was "added Ivory coast mass grave", yet in fact you undid one of the other stories. I think this is the second time I have had to mention misleading edit summaries.

Seems we had the same idea at roughly the same time. :) Yours is better though as you've incorporated a link to the affair so I've no objection if you want to move mine. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 16:29, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Actually don't worry about my last post, I've just merged them both. TheRetroGuy (talk) 16:36, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] MSU Interview

Dear Capitalistroadster,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 21:18, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Deaths in 2012, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Band of Brothers (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
