Non-continuation of some Film awards

Compliments of the season bro. I was about to resume my film-related articles since the award season was fast approaching, only to discover that recession has hit the entertainment industry. Nollywood movies award didn't hold in 2015 and 2016; GIAMA awards wouldn't be taking place in 2016 either. I'm glad that BON awards has been consistent since it's founding. At least,I'm pretty confident that AMAA and AMVCA can't be so affected by recession to the extent of not holding a ceremony in a year. Dstv has money; Peace has connection. What do you think is the reason for non-continuation of these awards? Is it totally down to lack of funds and recession? Darreg (talk) 12:34, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Most of these awards never really had a solid ground, and I've honestly never taken them so seriously. About logos

bsd. Hi, i saw you reverted the SVG logo i added to Jumia. In general, preferred logos should be in SVG format, and without taglines or slogans. Also JPG is the least optimal for logos. --Ben Stone 23:21, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

• Hello, can you kindly provide the guideline that supports this statement? Just to be sure, because I feel both logos are good quite alright. This is a general web standard (using SVG for logos, or at least PNG, not JPG), and also on wikipedia. May i refer you to Wikipedia:Preparing_images_for_upload#Do_not_save_diagrams_as_JPEG. I agree with you that if an image is good enough it shouldn't be changed, but JPG can't be regarded as such. Also, regarding taglines, i can't remember specifically where it's mentioned, but that seems to be the consensus. Finally, a small tip: when you answer a comment, add {{ping|(USERNAME)}} to automatically notify the person that you have answered (example: to notify me, add {{ping|Benstown}}. important: remove both "nowiki" tags). --Ben Stone 05:39, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

The "Binta" girl in Binta and Friends

I have been trying to get the real name of the young lady that starred as "Binta" in Binta and Friends tv series, but have been unsuccessful. I remember the series was very popular while I was much younger, so it's very likely that you will know about it. Can you assist me in verifying her real name? Someone told me she's Moyo Lawal, but I have no way of verifying that. I don't know why I'm obsessed about knowing her real name. I think I just want to know what she's up to today. You should know that I have done all that before asking you. I have used all the search techniques, queries and filters that I know. I have gone through Youtube several times. It's already an obsession for me. The only thing left is for me to contact Wale Adenuga, something I'm seriously considering now. And I believe it was just a single lady that acted as Binta. The series lasted for just one season, before transforming to Nnenna and Friends. Strangely, I think I know more about it than you do sef. But thanks for the response sha. There are some Wikipedians that I feel like we have crossed paths before, but I can't remember exactly where and I need to refresh my memory to know how to relate with them appropriately. Disruptive editing and Vandalism

Hello, I spent a better part of today thinking and contemplating on what to do next after I saw your edits on my input to the "OC Ukeje" article, you deleted completely the "Wedding day" category and your edit summary read "wording" could it be you have not come across this WP:ES which states that as an editor you should accurately summarize , as so you have failed woefully by just imputing the word "wording" now I do understand English is not our first language as Africans and I also know not us all were privileged to attend Ivy League institutions as I , so for the sake of being thorough, I would define what a summary is to you, A summary can be defined as a brief statement or account of the main points. Key word there being 'statement' . If ever you need directions or assistance as pertains the English language, by Gods grace I am readily available to assist. If the issue is you probably do not like me as an editor and have a personal vendetta against me, then I propose we bring a senior administrator into this discussion, you have said that I should not tell others "what to do" but I am sorry sir. Freedom of speech permits me to do so, so herein and now , I am telling you to be very careful whilst editing and please I beg, follow do procedure, because in the occasion you tamper with any Wikipedia material not just only my contributions and do not use your edit summary properly you would be reported for disruptive editing and vandalism.

1.Yes I removed The "Wedding day" section, because it is doesn't conform with Wikipedia's manual of style, which I'm sure you haven't gone through, despite having being advised to go through Wikipedia's policies. Also, Per WP:BLP, personal content on Wikipedia biographies are supposed to be concise; that was the reason I reworded your entry, despite the fact that it was infact on the borderline of not being suitable for Wikipedia.

2.Note that WP:ES is a help page, not a policy. There's no policy strictly guiding the use of summary column. That said, I believe I gave a sufficient enough explanation in my summary for what I did to the article.

3.Okay, keep teaching people what you know nothing about, where you'd end up will be your own doing. Just few months here, you've tried to antagonize almost everyone, despite being constantly told on most occasions that you demonstrate a lack of sound knowledge on how Wikipedia works. Where do you think this is?

@Sam Sailor: if after studying Wikipedia guidelines you affirm and confirm that "wording" is good enough for an edit summary, then we both still need to do a lot of reading because according to Wikipedia guide lines, an edit summary demands that a 'statement' be made, you tagged well sourced entries as 'gossip' and 'triviality' the former meaning it's authenticity is in doubt and the latter meaning it is 'irrelevant' addressing the former the entry was well cited so how is it a rumor ? And the latter, it is important because event occurred on subjects day of marriage, can I advice you do a course or two in English Language before proceeding to edit articles, I may be lacking the understanding of some Wikipedia policies, yes, but to not know well enough the English Language is worse still. However if you need tips on the Language i am readily available to offer it to you. I speak Spanish and Italian, and 9 other African Languages also, So please rather than 'try to be in the good books of Jamie' put your time to things more constructive

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Hall and parlor house. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you examine the source for the sentence in question, you will see nothing about Nigeria, and WP:V demands extraordinary sourcing for the extraordinary claim that this British-derived house form either was exported to Nigeria or was derived from a Nigerian original — by placing the comment before the citation, you've claimed that this is supported by the source, which obviously is false, i.e. a hoax. Further insertion of such claims, without solid sourcing to demonstrate a connection between Nigerian vernacular architecture and British vernacular architecture in this context, will be treated as vandalism. • This wasn't what you argued in your edit summary, but that's okay. It's quite interesting seeing the wiki behaviour you have been exhibiting though, despite being an administrator. Anyway, so are you saying the hall-and-parlor-house-type configuration explained in that article only exist in Britain, and other similar variations across the world doesn't deserve to be represented in the article? Clearly state what you are doing and defend it, based on relevant policies. Hall and parlour-type houses exists across the world, and the article should be globalized to reflect that. That's the reason for the addition I made and the maintenance tag that you are removing. As an administrator, are you by any chance trying to promote systemic bias? Ofcourse, Britain is free to have a local article on its own version, but it obviously doesn't belong in the current article title. @Jamie Tubers: I think you need to stop engaging in edit warring. As you already know, both you and Nyttend can get blocked for violating Wikipedia's three revert rule. I understand what you're trying to do, but I don't think you should include your wording in that particular area of the lead. The book source doesn't explicitly supports your wording. Perhaps you could add a sentence to the lead, or create a separate section about room and parlour houses in Nigeria. I completely understand where you're coming from. If you feel like there's enough sources out there to create a stand-alone article about hall and parlor houses, then perhaps the existing article can be moved to a different title. If you don't feel like a separate article is necessary, then I'd suggest you add a sentence or section to the article. I don't know if Preston transferred ownership of his image to Akintobi, but it looks like OTRS might not approve this. Support For New Comers

Nothing you have said to me or any other editor is taken for granted, as all really is for my betterment. Occasionally you delete my imputes/texts on articles and do not explain your action in details, who would not think you have a 'personal vendetta' ? remember sir, that we are not children but adults, you have to specify with proper terminologies the reason for your actions, nobody is telepathic hence even if your actions are in good faith, How do I know? "THE REALITY AND ACTIONS OF A MAN IS A REFLECTION OF THE INTENT OF THE HEART" [law of correspondence] explains this.

I examined your talk page and witnessed what I thought was a mild form of 'cyber bullying' by a so-called administrator to you, i would have reported him, but on second thoughts I did not, after all 'he is the authority' I mean, you did have a reasonable arguement but he wouldn't just listen, you must have felt some sort of anger mixed with moodiness, that is how we 'new comers' feel also.

In the end, little by little, we can make here a conducive environment, I have witnessed a lot of potential editors leave in their first 6 weeks because of harsh editors. Hi, sorry about that, I was updating the navigation to a navigation bar like the Africa one already at the end of the article and managed to delete the box without inserting the bar. Well, Alexplaugh's position can't overwrite a long standing version of articles. If he thinks that the numbering is inappropriate (which it is not), then he should initiate a discussion on the appropriate talkpage to that effect. Infact, you should've initiated that discussion before going on mass edits to all articles. As you've said, you have been on Wikipedia for quite a while, the fact that an information exists with a huge number of articles should've made you discuss it first, before a massive change. move of Unity Bank Plc.

Hello! I've been going through the public limited company articles and noticed you moved Unity Bank (Nigeria) to Unity Bank Plc.. It's a bit of an odd acronym, probably owing to its use in legal contexts, and is preferred as lowercase "plc" with no period (this according to the The Guardian style guide and the language reference desk – also the Manual of Style, though I did that update [with unanimous consent].) I suspect people write it "Plc." after a company name because they're used to this format with the abbreviation "Ltd.". Most companies seem to use it lower-case as it has to appear that way on legal documents in the UK. So far as I can tell it's a purely typographical issue (ie: it doesn't particularly matter how it appears in sources in connection to a specific subject), and is lowercase on the majority of Wikipedia articles. But I thought I'd best check with you in case "Plc" has a special use in Nigeria. I believe PLC also means "public limited company" in Nigeria, so please move it appropriately, since there's an existing guideline for writing PLCs. About "Newer data for Nigeria is not available"

Hi Jamie,

about your delete here: There was no extra citation for "Newer data for Nigeria is not available", because if you follow the citation directly before to the UNESCO page, and then call up (in a rather cumbersome setup that doesn't allow a permanent link) a table via "Culture" –> "Feature Films" –> "Feature Films (full dataset)" and set the Indicator on the table to "Total number of national feature films produced" – then you will see that Nigeria has no newer data than 2011. All the other countries do, so I felt that was relevant, in order to explain why the WP data set has not been updated since 2011, even though the diagram on the right shows data from 2015, which purports to also come from UNESCO. Maybe I should have moved the citation to after the sentence "Newer data for Nigeria is not available"?

By the way, the reason I had a closer look at this matter, is that I have until today been woefully ignorant of the size of Nigerian cinema production. I was very surprised to see that in 2011 there were more feature films produced in Nigeria than in the USA. And in 2010 the gap was even bigger! I wanted to use this information in a talk I'm giving in June, and would love to have newer data of that. So if you happen to know a reliable source for the feature films produced in 2015, I would be glad to know.

Well, Nigeria is not the only country on the table with missing years. I think the more appropriate method would be to add a "year" column to the Wikipedia table and then add the latest figures for each country. I believe this will properly reflect the years for the figures, and the readers will also be able to deduce additional observations for themselves. I do not like your constant reverting of my edits on States of Nigeria. It's not disruptive editing. I'm adding more information to the article. The table I created is for comparison of the states. It's not false information. You reverted the article to an edit that lacks quality. When I'm done with the table, I will put it up again. And you can see it. The map there isn't even "click able" as the article claims. Did you even the map I made? Please stop unnecessarily reverting if you are not going to criticise constructively. • @Willybeez: In your set of edits here, you replaced the SVG map (the standard format for maps on Wikipedia) in the infobox, with a png format, and you decided to also increase the size outrageously, such that it messes up the rendering of the article, clearly violating manual of style used on Wikipedia. The table you claim that you added for comparison of states, contains information from Brazil!

How exactly are you not disrupting the page?

I'll advise that whatever edits you decide to make again is very accurate, and cited with reliable reference. Also, don't mess up formats in the process. Failing to do any of these is disruptive, and your edits will be reverted again. Also note that persistent disruption is vandalism, which can get you blocked.

File:African Union flag.svg licensing

Hi Jamie Tubers. It appears that someone removed the "non-free logo" copyright tag for File:African Union flag.svg back in December 2016. No explanation was given for removing the copyright template, so it could've been just done in error. Since all files are required to have a copyright license per WP:F4, I've readded the non-free one. If you feel for some reason that the licensing is incorrect, then you can be WP:BOLD and change it, but I suggest only doing so if you can clearly show the file has been released under a free license or is in the public domain. As for the file's non-free use in Boko Haram insurgency, I personally feel it would be impossible to justify that type of decorative usage in an infobox per WP:NFCC#8; if, however, you feel differently, please provide the non-free use rationale required by WP:NFCC#10c explaining how that particular use satisfies all 10 non-free content criteria. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:01, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

The copyright tag was removed a while back, I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. Templates are occassionally removed from file pages in error by editors who mean well which is probably what happened in this case. A bot usually catches these kinds of things and flags them for review, but for some reason it didn't this time. Apparently it's the same situation between Big Brother (South African TV series) & Big Brother Mzansi 3 (South Africa), Big Brother Mzansi 4 (South Africa) I suggest moving it to Big Brother Naija 2 (Nigeria) to match these three.

• The South African version has no correlation to how the Nigerian version should appear. "Other stuff exists" is not a valid argument. Wikipedia has standard disambiguation methods in its manual of style. But considering that you used "teachers", not "lecturers" to describe an educator while in the US, this suggest to me that it was high school. I pictured you to be in your 20s if not close to it then. Hearing something about a secondary school teacher in the US now got me confused. I might be completely wrong, its not the first time. You have made a fair point. Personally, I like to think the values in contemporary African traditions and Christianity are not mutually exclusive. I don't need to abandon one for the other, in situations where there is significant variation, I believe that as human beings we have a conscience, that will determine the route to take.

I don't agree that Africans who are adherents to western religion were all indoctrinated into it. The reason I used "indoctrination" for my friends was because they were actually indoctrinated. The western lifestyle, public opinion, societal bias, mass media, left wing emphasis, entertainment industry, etc are all orchestrated to make religious people seem dumb, and its not only agnostic fellas that proselytize, many theistic religions also promotes brainwashing, which is needed for there to be societal balance, so its a two way thing. Hello Jamie, the template:Infobox state redirects to template:Infobox settlement. Redirects were replaced so that editors immediately know what actually is included, namely template:Infobox settlement. Editors only need to learn template:Infobox settlement and can edit infoboxes on 500 000 pages, districts, provinces, states, boroughs, municipalities, LGAs, etc. The replacement of redirects was almost complete in Nov 2017 and changed many pages including all Nigerian states. Offline Nollywood

Hi!

Quick intro: I'm from the Kiwix project - basically providing Wikipedia to people without internet access. We've been talking for some time about breaking down Wikipedia into its most useful pieces, so that it's easier to download and store for end users: you can find two examples here for Medicine (we even made it into an app) and Maths.

By now you should have guessed that Nollywood would be pretty high on the list in terms of natural candidates for offline distribution, and you being featured on the Wikimedia blog was the best timing there is. The way we work is that we take all articles labeled with both Wikiprojects Film and Nigeria and extract them into a single file that people can then download and check offline: we pretty much have that part covered already. What we're missing is a landing page - something very simple but informative enough that people know what's coming: would you be willing to help? Basically, like the Wikimed / WikiMaths pages, we'd need it to be sorted by very top items (e.g. super famous thrillers, comedy, drama, actors, language or whatever else you think makes sense)... and that's about it. The only limitation is that Kiwix does not take categories, so we can't link directly to it :-/

I've created a template landing page, but feel free to rearrange and modify it as much as you'd like (we can even go through several iterations and see how people react). You are the expert, so your help is immensely appreciated!

Facto Post – Issue 12 – 28 May 2018 ScienceSource funded The Wikimedia Foundation announced full funding of the ScienceSource grant proposal from ContentMine on May 18. See the ScienceSource Twitter announcement and 60 second video. A medical canon? The proposal includes downloading 30,000 open access papers, aiming (roughly speaking) to create a baseline for medical referencing on Wikipedia. It leaves open the question of how these are to be chosen. The basic criteria of WP:MEDRS include a concentration on secondary literature. Attention has to be given to the long tail of diseases that receive less current research. The MEDRS guideline supposes that edge cases will have to be handled, and the premature exclusion of publications that would be in those marginal positions would reduce the value of the collection. Prophylaxis misses the point that gate-keeping will be done by an algorithm. Two well-known but rather different areas where such considerations apply are tropical diseases and alternative medicine. There are also a number of potential downloading troubles, and these were mentioned in Issue 11. There is likely to be a gap, even with the guideline, between conditions taken to be necessary but not sufficient, and conditions sufficient but not necessary, for candidate papers to be included. With around 10,000 recognised medical conditions in standard lists, being comprehensive is demanding. With all of these aspects of the task, ScienceSource will seek community help. Respecting MEDRS Facto Post enters its second year, with a Cambridge Blue (OK, Aquamarine) background, a new logo, but no Cambridge blues. On-topic for the ScienceSource project is a project page here. It contains some case studies on how the WP:MEDRS guideline, for the referencing of articles at all related to human health, is applied in typical discussions. Close to home also, a template, called {{medrs}} for short, is used to express dissatisfaction with particular references. Technology can help with patrolling, and this Petscan query finds over 450 articles where there is at least one use of the template. Of course the template is merely suggesting there is a possible issue with the reliability of a reference. Deciding the truth of the allegation is another matter. This maintenance issue is one example of where ScienceSource aims to help. Where the reference is to a scientific paper, its type of algorithm could give a pass/fail opinion on such references. It could assist patrollers of medical articles, therefore, with the templated references and more generally. There may be more to proper referencing than that, indeed: context, quite what the statement supported by the reference expresses, prominence and weight. For that kind of consideration, case studies can help. But an algorithm might help to clear the backlog. Nigeria

While you are absolutely correct that WP:COMMONNAME applies to article titles (I used the wrong policy), MOS:LEADSENTENCE says that the title should be "the subject of the first sentence" so I think my edit on Nigeria should be reverted back but what do you think? • Doesn't change the fact that the full name is a variation and in fact a synonym to the common name. Therefore, the version of the article you're changing is not wrong and fully allowed by WP:MOS. It is commonplace on Wikipedia to use similar featured articles as templates. Germany is a featured article; Nigeria is not even a good article. I respect that you disagree but there was absolutely no need to comment in that manner on the talk page, making anyone who was going to make a comment on the discussion, not do so. His take on tackling the gaps in the Wikimedia movement is that "if we were an army, we could march in a column and close up all the gaps". In his view though, that is a faulty metaphor, and it leads to a completely false misunderstanding of the movement, its diversity and different aspirations, and the nature of the work as "fighting" to be done in the open sector. There are many fronts, and as an eventualist he feels the gaps experienced both by editors and by users of Wikimedia content are inevitable. He would like to see a greater emphasis on reuse of content, not simply its volume. "There's a consensus against including religious and ethnic figures" [in the article about Nigeria] -- where?

You reverted an edit I made, saying that "There's a consensus against including religious and ethnic figures, because there is no official record". Where was this consensus formed? I see no discussion of this on Talk:Nigeria -- just one guy asserting, with no explanation, that the "statics" (sic) are "wrong". The discussion in Talk:Religion_in_Nigeria isn't about whether the statistics are reliable, but rather about which reliable source is more reliable, the CIA World Factbook or the Pew Research Center.

Even if we assume that the figures aren't reliable, I don't think your edit makes sense. If figures pulled directly from the Religion in Nigeria article are too untrustworthy to include in the infobox, then surely the article itself is also too untrustworthy to link from the same place. • Hello,

The reason why religion statistics was removed in the first place was that, there's been heavy editwars around it in the past; different figures from different relatively valid sources. It was realized that this issue may never stop (as you can see, even someone already disputed your figures on the talkpage already), since Nigerian Government didn't include this information in past census data. Therefore, whatever various figures online are "guesstimates" at best. That gave rise to the consensus to remove it on the Nigerian article infobox. I have no opinion on the other places the figures appear on Wikipedia. Evidently a rare enough disease is likely to be neglected, but neglected disease these days means a disease not rare, but tropical, and most often infectious or parasitic. Rare diseases as a group are dominated, in contrast, by genetic diseases. A major aspect of neglect is found in tracking drug discovery. Orphan drugs are those developed to treat rare diseases (rare enough not to have market-driven research), but there is some overlap in practice with the WHO's neglected diseases, where snakebite, a "neglected public health issue", is on the list. From an encyclopedic point of view, lack of research also may mean lack of high-quality references: the core medical literature differs from primary research, since it operates by aggregating trials. This bibliographic deficit clearly hinders Wikipedia's mission. The ScienceSource project is currently addressing this issue, on Wikidata. Its Wikidata focus list at WD:SSFL is trying to ensure that neglect does not turn into bias in its selection of science papers. I recently discovered that the first pioneer, civilian paramedics in history were African Amercian Freedom House ambulance attendents in Pittsburg, Pa, in the late 1960s - and there is no article about them here!

I have some basic material to create an article but feel daunted by how truely important this is, both to medical and African American history. Is there someone you could recommend who might like to collaborate on such an article, or who could refer me to someone who would? For the record: I'm a paleface :)

The science publishing landscape In an ideal world ... no, bear with your editor for just a minute ... there would be a format for scientific publishing online that was as much a standard as SI units are for the content. Likewise cataloguing publications would not be onerous, because part of the process would be to generate uniform metadata. Without claiming it could be the mythical free lunch, it might be reasonably be argued that sandwiches can be packaged much alike and have barcodes, whatever the fillings. The best on offer, to stretch the metaphor, is the meal kit option, in the form of XML. Where scientific papers are delivered as XML downloads, you get all the ingredients ready to cook. But have to prepare the actual meal of slow food yourself. See Scholarly HTML for a recent pass at heading off XML with HTML, in other words in the native language of the Web. The argument from real life is a traditional mixture of frictional forces, vested interests, and the classic irony of the principle of unripe time. On the other hand, discoverability actually diminishes with the prolific progress of science publishing. No, it really doesn't scale. Wikimedia as movement can do something in such cases. We know from open access, we grok the Web, we have our own horse in the HTML race, we have Wikidata and WikiJournal, and we have the chops to act. Wikidata imaged Around 2.7 million Wikidata items have an illustrative image. These files, you might say, are Wikimedia's stock images, and if the number is large, it is still only 5% or so of items that have one. All such images are taken from Wikimedia Commons, which has 50 million media files. One key issue is how to expand the stock. Indeed, there is a tool. WD-FIST exploits the fact that each Wikipedia is differently illustrated, mostly with images from Commons but also with fair use images. An item that has sitelinks but no illustrative image can be tested to see if the linked wikis have a suitable one. This works well for a volunteer who wants to add images at a reasonable scale, and a small amount of SPARQL knowledge goes a long way in producing checklists. Gran Teatro, Cáceres, Spain, at night It should be noted, though, that there are currently 53 Wikidata properties that link to Commons, of which P18 for the basic image is just one. WD-FIST prompts the user to add signatures, plaques, pictures of graves and so on. There are a couple of hundred monograms, mostly of historical figures, and this query allows you to view all of them. commons:Category:Monograms and its subcategories provide rich scope for adding more. And so it is generally. The list of properties linking to Commons does contain a few that concern video and audio files, and rather more for maps. But it contains gems such as P3451 for "nighttime view". Over 1000 of those on Wikidata, but as for so much else, there could be yet more. Go on. Today is Wikidata's birthday. AfroCine: The Months of African Cinema Continues….

Thank you very much for signing up to participate in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

Bibliography supports students and researchers in any topic, but open and machine-readable bibliographic data even more so, outside the silo. Cue the WikiCite initiative, which was meeting in conference this week, in the Bay Area of California. Wikidata training for librarians at WikiCite 2018 In fact there is a broad scope: "Open Knowledge Maps via SPARQL" and the "Sum of All Welsh Literature", identification of research outputs, Library.Link Network and Bibframe 2.0, OSCAR and LUCINDA (who they?), OCLC and Scholia, all these co-exist on the agenda. Certainly more library science is coming Wikidata's way. That poses the question about the other direction: is more Wikimedia technology advancing on libraries? Good point. Wikimedians generally are not aware of the tech background that can be assumed, unless they are close to current training for librarians. A baseline definition is useful here: "bash, git and OpenRefine". Compare and contrast with pywikibot, GitHub and mix'n'match. Translation: scripting for automation, version control, data set matching and wrangling in the large, are on the agenda also for contemporary library work. Certainly there is some possible common ground here. Time to understand rather more about the motivations that operate in the library sector. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.

Everything flows (and certainly data does) Recently Jimmy Wales has made the point that computer home assistants take much of their data from Wikipedia, one way or another. So as well as getting Spotify to play Frosty the Snowman for you, they may be able to answer the question "is the Pope Catholic?" Possibly by asking for disambiguation (Coptic?). Play media Amazon Echo device using the Amazon Alexa service in voice search showdown with the Google rival on an Android phone Headlines about data breaches are now familiar, but the unannounced circulation of information raises other issues. One of those is Gresham's law stated as "bad data drives out good". Wikipedia and now Wikidata have been criticised on related grounds: what if their content, unattributed, is taken to have a higher standing than Wikimedians themselves would grant it? See Wikiquote on a misattribution to Bismarck for the usual quip about "law and sausages", and why one shouldn't watch them in the making. Wikipedia has now turned 18, so should act like as adult, as well as being treated like one. The Web itself turns 30 some time between March and November this year, per Tim Berners-Lee. If the Knowledge Graph by Google exemplifies Heraclitean Web technology gaining authority, contra GIGO, Wikimedians still have a role in its critique. But not just with the teenage skill of detecting phoniness. There is more to beating Gresham than exposing the factoid and urban myth, where WP:V does do a great job. Placeholders must be detected, and working with Wikidata is a good way to understand how having one statement as data can blind us to replacing it by a more accurate one. An example that is important to open access is that, firstly, the term itself needs considerable unpacking, because just being able to read material online is a poor relation of "open"; and secondly, trying to get Creative Commons license information into Wikidata shows up issues with classes of license (such as CC-BY) standing for the actual license in major repositories. Detailed investigation shows that "everything flows" exacerbates the issue. But Wikidata can solve it. Systematic reviews are basic building blocks of evidence-based medicine, surveys of existing literature devoted typically to a definite question that aim to bring out scientific conclusions. They are principled in a way Wikipedians can appreciate, taking a critical view of their sources. PRISMA flow diagram for a systematic review Ben Goldacre in 2014 wrote (link below) "[...] : the "information architecture" of evidence based medicine (if you can tolerate such a phrase) is a chaotic, ad hoc, poorly connected ecosystem of legacy projects. In some respects the whole show is still run on paper, like it's the 19th century." Is there a Wikidatan in the house? Wouldn't some machine-readable content that is structured data help? 2011 photograph by Bernard Schittny of the "Legacy Projects" group Most likely it would, but the arcana of systematic reviews and how they add value would still need formal handling. The PRISMA standard dates from 2009, with an update started in 2018. The concerns there include the corpus of papers used: how selected and filtered? Now that Wikidata has a 20.9 million item bibliography, one can at least pose questions. Each systematic review is a tagging opportunity for a bibliography. Could that tagging be reproduced by a query, in principle? Can it even be second-guessed by a query (i.e. simulated by a protocol which translates into SPARQL)? Homing in on the arcana, do the inclusion and filtering criteria translate into metadata? At some level they must, but are these metadata explicitly expressed in the articles themselves? The answer to that is surely "no" at this point, but can TDM find them? Again "no", right now. Automatic identification doesn't just happen. Actually these questions lack originality. It should be noted though that WP:MEDRS, the reliable sources guideline used here for health information, hinges on the assumption that the usefully systematic reviews of biomedical literature can be recognised. Its nutshell summary, normally the part of a guideline with the highest density of common sense, allows literature reviews in general validity, but WP:MEDASSESS qualifies that indication heavily. When in the cloud, do as the APIs do Half a century ago, it was the era of the mainframe computer, with its air-conditioned room, twitching tape-drives, and appearance in the title of a spy novel Billion-Dollar Brain then made into a Hollywood film. Now we have the cloud, with server farms and the client–server model as quotidian: this text is being typed on a Chromebook. Logo of Cloud API on Google Cloud Platform The term Applications Programming Interface or API is 50 years old, and refers to a type of software library as well as the interface to its use. While a compiler is what you need to get high-level code executed by a mainframe, an API out in the cloud somewhere offers a chance to perform operations on a remote server. For example, the multifarious bots active on Wikipedia have owners who exploit the MediaWiki API. APIs (called RESTful) that allow for the GET HTTP request are fundamental for what could colloquially be called "moving data around the Web"; from which Wikidata benefits 24/7. So the fact that the Wikidata SPARQL endpoint at query.wikidata.org has a RESTful API means that, in lay terms, Wikidata content can be GOT from it. The programming involved, besides the SPARQL language, could be in Python, younger by a few months than the Web. Magic words, such as occur in fantasy stories, are wishful (rather than RESTful) solutions to gaining access. You may need to be a linguist to enter Ali Baba's cave or the western door of Moria (French in the case of "Open Sesame", in fact, and Sindarin being the respective languages). Talking to an API requires a bigger toolkit, which first means you have to recognise the tools in terms of what they can do. On the way to the wikt:impactful or polymathic modern handling of facts, one must perhaps take only tactful notice of tech's endemic problem with documentation, and absorb the insightful point that the code in APIs does articulate the customary procedures now in place on the cloud for getting information. As Owl explained to Winnie-the-Pooh, it tells you The Thing to Do.
