(CBI) will shortly send a
fresh set of letters

Over 50 p.c. increase in trade deficit
With the gloom on the export front
persisting and import trends continuing to
indicate signs of pick up, the country's trade
deficit for the first five months of the current
financial year registered a 51.91 per cent increase
over the previous year. The trade deficit for
April-August 1997 was $ 2,189.39 millions
compared to $ 1,441.21 million during the
corresponding period of 1996, according to the
data released by the Commerce Ministry here on
Tuesday.
