Alliance Program 3

Now accepting new members! The Bootstrap Alliance is a new broad-based cooperative dedicated to the improvement of individual, team, and organizational performance in collaborative settings. Participants in the Alliance will find a forum to test new concepts and learn with and from peers and leading innovators who span across industry, government, academic, and public interest sectors. As active participants, members will enhance their own capabilities in knowledge management, collaboration, virtual teaming, and the processes for continuous improvement and learning. 3A

Members will not only benefit from other's experiences, but they will also add to the Alliance's intellectual capital. Participants will learn best practices from thought leaders and collaborate on common issues, challenges, and strategies, while sharing and improving upon the lessons learned. Programs will be designed from the start to gain from synergy with evolving information technologies. Alliance activities will benefit from jointly developed knowledge bases, active online discussions, as well as face-to-face and virtual meetings. 3B

Current participants now include leading organizations such as Sun Microsystems, Netscape Communications, Educational Testing Service, General Services Administration, NTT Labs, Institute for the Future, Morino Institute, and the the Kellogg Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities. Among the early initiatives are collaborative inter/intranet technology template, evolutionary knowledge management, customer focus, and commercial awareness. 3C

Boosting Collective IQ with Douglas Engelbart management seminar. How do you promote your organization's success when faced with the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century? Join Doug Engelbart, the foremost collaboration technology and strategic improvement leader, at a seminar on enhanced methods for collaboration, knowledge management, virtual teaming, and continuous learning and improvement. Implementation of his lessons will give your organization a competitive edge and place it on the fast track to dramatically higher performance. In addition, learn more about The Bootstrap Alliance, a cooperative now launching with Sun, Netscape, Educational Testing Service, and others. A Comprehensive Strategy for Bootstrapping Organizations into the 21st Century is a 3-day management seminar developed by Doug Engelbart at Stanford University. This intensive program builds on his "Bootstrap Paradigm Map", including detailed lecture, slides, demos, movies, guest speakers, in-depth discussion, and convivial meals, with Engelbart's candid anecdotal experiences woven throughout. 4B

Expeditions 5

Companies interested in seriously assessing or testing these strategies can enroll in a Bootstrap Expedition. This unique program, led by Engelbart and his crew, explores the uncharted frontier of high-performance knowledge work. The entire Expedition is conducted online in an advanced pilot environment. The Expedition Team members experience first-hand the human-tool requirements for supporting wide-area collaboration online. Paradigm shifts, human-tool co-evolution, and special deployment strategies are an integral part of the program. This intensive hands-on Bootstrap Expedition represents a cost-effective high-leverage vehicle for exploration and assessment. 5A

Research & Development 6

The Bootstrap Institute is developing a graphical user interface and browser for AUGMENT (our first-generation OHS), porting Augment onto a Sun server, and developing scenario-based demonstrations of applicability in distributed collaborative software engineering, program management, education, and command and control. We are in parallel proposing to build a next-generation OHS prototype as an exploratory vehicle for participating organizations to launch a variety of pilot applications, as well as expanding our R&D efforts into best practices for online collaborative knowledge work, and developing high-performance teams as prototype high-performance organizations. 6A
