For those who you who are in LA or close to LA:
There's a literary reading next Thurs. (10-10) at the Japanese American
National Museum, sponsored by the Museum and Aisarema/dIS*orient
Journalzine.  It will feature three writers from the current
issue of dIS*orient, including Elsa E'der and Diep Tran.  Both
Elsa and Diep write about queer API experience.  Elsa's poetry has
appeared in quite a few places, including Asian American Sexualities,
which was published last year.  Diep co-edits the Queer issue of
Doi Den and has performed in a women's festival at Highways, a
cutting-edge performance space in LA.  See press release below

For those who you who can't be in LA that day:
You can still pick up a copy of dIS*orient, whose current issue
includes Diep, Elsa as well as other Queer API writers.  E-mail

dIS*orient: ASIAN AMERICAN WRITERS TO READ AT JAPANESE AMERICAN
NATIONAL MUSEUM


A series of literary readings has been held in Los Angeles to
celebrate the publication of the latest issue of dIS*orient
Journalzine. On Thursday, October 10, this series continues with
a reading at the Japanese American National Museum, 369 E. First
Street, Los Angeles, (213) 625-0414.  Scheduled readers include
Elsa E'der, Diep Tran and Karen Tei Yamashita.  The reading will
begin at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is free.


Elsa E'der is a poet, multimedia performer and screenwriter.
She is published in Returning a Borrowed Tongue, a Filipino and
Filipino-American poetry anthology.  She is currently working on
a documentary on women and drumming.


Diep Tran is the co-editor of Doi Dien's forthcoming issue on
lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders.  She has read for
Highways' 1995 Women's Festival and the Wrestling Tigers: Asian
American Writers Speak series at the Japanese American National
Museum.


Karen Tei Yamashita is the author of two novels, Brazil-Maru and
Through the Arc of the Rain Forest .  Her new novel Tropics of
Orange will be published in the fall of 1997.  She serves on the
board of directors of PEN Center USA West.  Her work has also
been published in Premonitions, an anthology of Asian American
poetry.


dIS*orient Journalzine is an Asian Pacific American literary
arts publication founded in 1993.  It innovatively incorporates
literature and graphic arts by emerging and established Asian
Pacific American talent. dIS*orient is published annually by
Aisarema, a Los Angeles-based Asian Pacific American arts
organization, and is funded by the California Arts Council and
the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.  For more
