So don't get the tapioca balls. It's a Taiwanese thing that made it to LA and SF and that's JUST ABOUT it (though I found mediocre boba nai cha in Austin, Texas).
 
Lots of people like it judging by its popularity.
 
Westside: Volcano is definitely the best, though CJ's in the Olympic Collection (Olympic/Sawtelle) is good. Also, they serve it at Noodle Planet but it's a bit sugary. I suspect it's probably from Boba World next door, now that I think about it.
 
SGV: Au 79 in Arcadia, Tea Spirit in the San Gabriel Superstore (expensive!), Tapioca Express on Valley just west of Garfield, and Shau May's on Garfield just north of Garvey.
