Tonight I spent twenty minutes and three phone calls trying to get Pollo a la Brasa to repeat the name of the third special they'd recounted.

I phoned three times because they hung up on me twice.

I spoke slowly, I rephrased, I wanted to place an order but in the end I didn't because it was just too difficult.

I can't be the only person who has had this kind of experience, or who has wondered whether no one advises restaurants of misspellings or misrepresentations on their menus; or whether restaurateurs genuinely don't care about these things, and about the loss of trust or business their indifference may precipitate.

I would love to know how others have handled this kind of situation, and what your thoughts are on why restaurants might publish menus and materials replete with misspellings and grammatical errors (I know some restaurateurs may not be native English speakers, but it doesn't take much to secure an editor. And that goes for the countless number of 'American' restaurants that offer 'ceasar salad', too). My questions may sound petty but I'm actually interested in this phenomenon.
