Owen was raised in the southwestern U.S. and has one younger sister, Ellen, who is a freshman in college. He has always been very close with his sister, however their personalities are quite polar. Whereas Owen is easy going and even tempered, Ellen is gregarious and impassioned. Owen became interested in music in grade school where he studied the piano and later the guitar.
Owen later moved to the northern Midwest where Shelly, his best friend since grade school, and her family had prieviously moved. Both had talked about putting a band together and with the introduction of Jacquline on drums, "Fermented Banana" was formed.
