Remote Controls

Squeezebox includes a custom remote control designed to make accessing your music fast and easy. Why? Because we made complex functions available at a touch of a button. Few remotes can do what we do with so few buttons.

See how it works:

  • POWER—Puts player into standby or on mode. When off, the display will dim, stop the music and show a clock display. control the player and manage playlists from a web browser
  • VOLUME—Adjust the volume of the audio the Squeezebox is producing.
  • NOW PLAYING—Displays information about the current song playing. Press it again to switch between display of minutes and seconds into the current song, minutes and seconds remaining in a song, a bar graph of progress through the song, or a combination of time and progress.
  • REW—Press it once to restarts playing the current song; press it twice to skip to the previous song. Press and hold the button to scan backwards through the current song.
  • PAUSE—Press it once to pause the currently playing song. Press it again to continue.
  • FWD—Press this button to skip to the next song. Press and hold it to scan forward through the current song.Browse and search by title, artist, album or genre
  • PLAY—Press this button to play the songs within the displayed selection. Press it again and hold it, and you will be prompted to save the current playlist for use later.
  • ADD—Press this button to add the displayed selection to the end of the current playlist.
  • UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT—Use the these buttons to navigate within the music library.
  • SEARCH—Press this button to search for Albums, Artists, or Songs.
  • 0-9—Use the number buttons to enter letters when searching (similar to entering text with a cell phone.) For example, press the 2 button once for "A," twice for "B," three times for "C," and four times for "2".
  • FAVORITES—Press this button to jump to the list of favorite items you've saved and pick one to play.
  • SHUFFLE—Press this button to shuffle the order of the songs in the current playlist. Press it again to shuffle the order of albums in the current playlist. Press it one more time to return the items to the order in which they were added to the current playlist.Supports multiple synchronized players
  • REPEAT—Press this button to switch between repeat settings
  • SLEEP—Press this button to tell the Squeezebox to turn itself off in 15 minutes. You can add 15 minute increments up to a total of 90 minutes by pressing it repeatedly. If you wish to cancel the Sleep function, keep pressing it until the player says, "Sleep cancelled."
  • SIZE—Press this button to toggle between displaying standard and double-sized characters on the display.
  • BRIGHTNESS—Press this button to cycle through Squeezebox display brightness levels. You can do this while the player is powered either on or stand-by mode.

Tips & Tricks

Squeezebox can be controlled by a wide variety of devices including universal remotes, Sony PSP, Philips Pronto and PocketPC, Palm OS and even cell phones.

Sony PSP owners can use the web browser that comes with the Sony PSP 2.0 update to control Squeezebox and SlimServer.

Pocket PC—If you have a Wi-Fi enabled handheld PC, use Telcanto for SlimServer to control Squeezebox and SlimServer.

Alternatively, use the specially designed web skin that is built-in to SlimServer to control access to your Squeezebox. The skin is accessible through the player's web interface under: Server Settings->Advanced Settings->Web Interface->Handheld or with the URL: http://ipaddress:9000/Handheld/

Cell Phones & PalmOS—Install Salling Clicker on a Bluetooth enabled cell phone or PalmOS handheld to control your Squeezebox.

Philips Pronto—If you have a Philips Pronto remote, look for color and black & white pre-programmed screens for this remote on the plugins page.

Universal Remotes—Squeezebox will also respond to the infrared signals intended for a JVC DVD player. The instructions that came with your universal remote tell you how to program your remote to send these codes to any Squeezebox.
