I am an attorney in Texas, and I write fiction and poetry in my spare time. In addition, I publish Lone Star Stories, a webzine of speculative fiction and poetry, as well as MultiVerse, a webzine of speculative poetry reviews. You can find my home page here.

My poem, "a plan," in the current issue of Abyss & Apex was reviewed at Tangent Online recently. This is my first poetry review, and it's a really nice one. :-) |
Thanks, Julia! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-) |
Oh, I enjoyed it - it was sad in a good way. :-) |
Thanks, Kaori and Terry!
Maybe I should have used something other than "Enjoy!" in connection with that poem . . . . |
Yikes, you are *ruthless*, man! Good poem, though. |
Man, "rejection" made me feel bad. Good stuff, Eric.
Kaori |
My poem, "rejection," is online at Ultraverse. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Josh! |
Nice interview, Eric! |
Matt Cheney was kind enough to interview me regarding MultiVerse, and you can read the interview here. I'm very pleased. |
Samantha Henderson's review of the poetry of ChiZine #23 is online at MultiVerse. |
My poem, "cold crib," is online at Fireweed (the second poem on the page). |
My dark poem, "In the Walls," is now online at Decompositions. |
Samantha Henderson graciously offered to review two of the poems of Issue 11 of Abyss & Apex for MultiVerse, and I reviewed the third poem. The reviews are now online.
If anyone else is interested in submitting reviews to MultiVerse, please let me know. |
I have three new mini-reviews up on MultiVerse:
1. "Keepers (from Grannie's Garden)" by Mary E. Choo; 2. "Cranes" by Mary Pat Mann; and 3. "Once upon a Time" by Jaime Lee Moyer. |
Thank you, Kaori. I'm glad you found the site useful! |
Multiverse looks good--I like the design. Also, your reviews didn't give away too much about the poems. I'm starting to learn more about speculative poetry and I'll use your site as a resource.
Kaori |
Thanks for the positive feedback on MultiVerse, Josh, Patrick, Lon, and Sam! :-) |
Nice, Eric! |
Lookin' good Eric!
Lon |
Now that's a more attractive website... :) |
So, you decided to start another site in your copious free time? ;)
Looks good! I like the idea of bite-sized reviews for spec poetry. Let me know when you post more. |
I'm experimenting with a new webzine of speculative poetry reviews, MultiVerse, and I welcome ideas and feedback. So far I have two mini-reviews up, one of Tim Pratt's "A Bestiary: Tlatecuhtli" and one of Yoon Ha Lee's "Kingdom of Dust and Steel." |
I'm deranged, therefore I write. |
God, another story idea. What is it with you people? |
Uh oh. Josh has a story idea . . . . |
Blood & bunnies? Sounds like a story idea to me... |
How about blood and bunnies for the web site, Josh? That would make a great impression on readers . . . . *grin* |
Eric, for your web page I suggest all black with digital blood dripping down the page...hang on a sec, has that already been done?
Maybe just something with bunnies. |
Thanks for noting the positive review of Lone Star Stories at Tangent Online, Simon!
Yes, Patrick also thinks that my web design is less than appealing. I'm working on a new look for the next issue with the suggestions of you and Patrick in mind. |
I hope you enjoy the issue, Terry! I have so far. :-) |
Thanks, Eric.
Tonight, I might get a chance to read the issue. |
Hey Eric, great review over at Tangent by Patrick. You'll notice though at the very end that he has a similar complaint as the one I had with the layout of the site itself :-P |
Both tales are entertaining and dark, dark. Nice work, Mikal and Terry! |
And one more that might also ring a small (very small) bell. |
Gee, there's another familiar name there, as well...;p |
My flash piece, "Doubled," is now online at Shadowed Realms. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Josh! I'm glad you like the current issue so much. :-) |
Very nice, Eric! I belive the latest issue is one of the strongest so far. |
Patrick Samphire has posted a very positive review of the fiction of Lone Star Stories No. 8 on Tangent Online. I'm very pleased for my authors and for Lone Star Stories. :-)
Thanks, Patrick! |
*laughing* See you there, Mikal! |
So, you finally fell to the Dark side...
See ya at A-con...mwuhahahahaaaaa! |
Thanks a lot, Sam! :-) |
Congratulations, Eric! No more than the story deserves, though. |
Thanks, Justin and Josh! I'm really pleased. :-)
Oh, and I think you'll have more to say than I will at the con, Josh. *grin* |
"I hope we get on a panel or two together, Josh!"
Me too, that way you can be all smart and I can just nod and agree with you. ;) Congrats on the great review! |
Can't ask for a better review than that. Nice going! |
Jason Fischer has posted a very positive review of All-Star Zeppelin Adventure Stories on Tangent Online, and he makes the following comments on my contribution to the anthology:
"Counting Zeppelins" by Eric Marin The second flash fiction story to grace these pages, this is short, sharp, and shiny. A good example of what flash fiction is capable of, doing less with more. A real thought-provoker! Coolness! :-) |
I hope we get on a panel or two together, Josh! |
I'll be at Armadillocon too. Just look for the guy following Joe Lansdale around like a lost puppy. |
I'm sure I'll have a great time, Terry, and I'll be sure to relate my experiences here. :-) |
EeeeeWWWWW, Eric! You're gonna have SUCH FUN!!! That is so cool! I hope you'll come back here & tell us all about it. |
I will be attending ArmadilloCon in Austin, Texas this year as a writer/editor/publisher guest and as a teacher for the all-day writing workshop. This will be the first convention I have ever attended, and it will be the first class in which I have taught creative writing to adults. I'm looking forward to it. |
Thanks, Josh! :-) |
All that and he does windows too, folks!
Great job, Eric! |
Thanks, Sam! :-) |
Excellent! |
Thanks, Melissa! :-) |
Chilling poem, Eric. |
My poem, "a plan," is online at Abyss & Apex. Enjoy! |
Simon Owens has some very nice things to say about M. Thomas' "Cicada," one of the stories in the current issue of Lone Star Stories, in a Lit Haven post. He also writes favorably of Lone Star Stories itself.
Thanks, Simon! |
I have three pieces online this month:
a story, "Death And . . .," in Lost in the Dark, another story, "The Need for an Interview," in Between Kisses, and a poem, "away," in the final issue of Neverary. Enjoy! |
Issue No. 8 of Lone Star Stories is now online.
Fiction: 1. "The Heirs of Cenpa" by Sandra McDonald; 2. "Cicada" by M. Thomas; and 3. "Manuscript Found Written in the Paw Prints of a Stoat" by Samantha Henderson. Poetry: 1. "In Retirement" by Marcie Lynn Tentchoff; 2. "The Art of Becoming" by Melissa Marr; and 3. "it is the sky that calls to us" by Terrie Leigh Relf. Enjoy! |
BURMA!!!!
(Sorry. I panicked.) |
Don't make me get the flying monkeys, Mikal! |
Why don't you two just get a...
Oh, wait. You've heard that one before. ;p |
Back atcha : ) |
Hi, Sam! :-) |
He speaks, He lives! |
Thanks, Lisa! :-) |
Woo-hoo! That's great news, Eric. Lone Star Stories just keeps getting better and better! |
Effective immediately, Lone Star Stories now pays $10 per story (poetry rates remain $2 a poem). |
*grinning at Josh* |
I hear there's some REALLY good stuff there too...
I especially enjoyed issue #3 & #5. ;) |
Lone Star Stories is now archiving its fiction and poetry. Several past Lone Star Stories authors were kind enough to allow their work to be archived. The archives can be reached here. |
Thanks, Josh! :-) |
Keep on chugging, Eric! |
I have a flash story, "Crow Justice," and a poem, "Homer's Giants," online at Mytholog this month. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Lisa! I'm glad you enjoyed "kristine has her way" so much, and I'm sorry I depressed you with "An Iris a Week." You're right: "enjoy" isn't quite the right word for that tale. I am pleased on a writerly level that the story did affect you, though.
Shallow. That's me. ;-) |
Um, "enjoy" might not be the right word to use with "An Iris a Week." ;) But you depressed me, so consider yourself successful. BTW, "kristine has her way" was the stand-out poem for me in the latest Aoife's Kiss.
Lisa B. |
My mainstream flash piece, "An Iris a Week," is online at Flashquake. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Steph! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Thanks, Josh! :-) |
Congrats, Eric! |
I loved "kristine has her way", Eric! So much fun. Congrats again on its sale/publication! |
My poem, "kristine has her way," is online at Aoife's Kiss. |
Thanks, Joy! I'm glad you enjoyed the story, and, yes, it was fun to write. :-) |
Eric
I just got around to reading "An Elevator Too Far" and got a big kick out of it. As an editor you must enjoy flights of fancy like that one. Good job. Joy |
I started a daily haiku journal recently, and visitors are welcome. :-) |
The fiction in the current issue of Lone Star Stories received a very positive review today by Patrick Samphire. Thanks, Patrick! |
My flash story, "Insurrection," is up at Apex Online. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Jackie! :-) |
Congrats on the BC sale!
Jackie |
I decided it would be good for my poetry-writing self-discipline to post a haiku of mine a day in my online journal. Y'all are invited to drop by and comment. My first post is here. |
Thanks, Steph! :-) |
Woohoo! What a nice first review. |
Thanks, Terry! I hope you get a copy soon. :-) |
Congo rats, Eric! I read the whole thing, now I want the book! I'll snag Jay next time he's in Omaha, maybe. |
As part of a glowing review of All-Star Zeppelin Adventure Stories, Sherwood Smith said the following about my contribution to the anthology:
"Counting Zeppelins" by Eric Marin -- It is another two page story, very strange, told in a folksy voice. I needed to read it twice, once to see where it was going, and again to appreciate how it got there. My first review! And it's a good one! :-) |
My flash piece, "A Blue Rose," is online at The Harrow. Enjoy! |
Thanks, Kathy! I enjoyed your "Animals That Belong to the Emperor" as well. :-) |
