Welcome to my corner!

I'm Chris, a managing partner of Southlogic Studios, Latin America's largest video game developer. I've worked on many video games over the years, sometimes as writer, director, and/or producer.

I grew up in Texas but currently reside with my wife and cat in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

When I'm not being attacked by hordes of wild monkeys, I also enjoy writing and critiquing speculative fiction.

Hi Chris.

Congratulations on gaining an acceptance from Nowa Fantastyka. They published a story of mine last June, my first work to appear in a foreign language. Good people to work with, who publish a nice looking magazine.

And Aliette with the genuine French champagne! I'll be drinking quite a bit of Brazilian sparkling tomorrow, we're having a party here at the house. I will down one for the RMers!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for the toast! I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and many, MANY sales in 2007!

*raises glass of champagne to persistence*
I haven't yet hit 100 rejections, but that will surely be coming...

Hear hear!!!

And thanks for the congratulations, Sonya! It honestly does feel good, just sticking through with something no matter what the odds (although those sales along the way help quite a bit). And of course, having such a wonderful group here at the RM, everyone sharing all those ups and downs.

And so I toast to persistence through laughter and tears, form letters and personal rejections, e-subs and snail mail, and everything else that comes with being a specultaive fiction writer!

To persistence, tenacity and stubbornness!

A toast to all of us who persevere ... diligently, tenaciously - and sometimes foolishly *gap toothed grin*

Congrats on the 100 rejects :-P

Would you? That would be sweet! :)

Although honestly, I think I'll hold out for the tattoo that says "100th sale!" :)

Is this where we get you drunk and give you a tattoo that says "100th rejection?" :)

Yes, I dug the fan out of storage yesterday, one day too late. It helped last night, at least.

The good news is, I can at least go to the beach on the weekends. It's about a two-hour drive to Torres, where we have a place to stay. Last weekend was blue sky and warm, clear water.

Oh, ick. No fan, even? At such high humidity it doesn't even help to spritz onesself with water, which works when it's dry enough to evaporate the water. Cools you right down. Well - good luck. Hope it cools off soon!
Message 476028 by Christopher Kastensmidt on 2006-01-10 06:38:04. Feedback: 0
Looks like the humidity has been 50-60% lately. During the day I can relax in my air-conditioned office. At night, I lay awake sweating in bed, trying to make as little movement as possible.

Even my cat, who almost always snuggles up between my ankles at night, went to sleep on the kitchen floor the last couple of nights. I'm thinking of joining him.

107!!! Yikes!!! I hope you were in air conditioning, or at least could spend the day in sloth-like inanimation! Ick, that's too hot. What's your humidity like where you are? You're in southern Brazil, right? Near the coast?
Message 475953 by Christopher Kastensmidt on 2006-01-09 16:23:33. Feedback: 0
Thanks, Aliette!

Apparently I must to catch up on my aardvark-iquette, it seems to be a hot topic around these parts.

Speaking of hot, it hit 41.6 degrees here yesterday (107 fahrenheit). Hope you northern hemispherians are enjoying the cold.

aardvarks, sorry.

Be very careful about the aardvark, they're EVIL :)

And congrats on the sale, that's great !

"Rampaging aardvark parties?" I want to see that!!!
Oh, wait... Be careful what I ask for. Be careful what I ask for. Be careful what I ask for...

LOL, be careful what you ask for, Christopher, you know these haunts have a tendency to sprout pun-fests, rampaging aardvark parties and chocolate orgies.

Thanks, Terry!

I hear Nowa Fantastyka has a print run of 45,000, so I'm quite pleased that a lot of people will have the chance to read my work. And it's also a great way to start the new year. :)

And a special thanks for breaking in my author topic! I was starting to see virtual cobwebs growing here.
