Hope not. My neck barely supports my head as it is. :-)
Of course, any ego boost I get only lasts until the next rejection arrives. The surest cure for a swollen cranium. |
Way to go, Matt. Have you had to increase your hat size yet? ;^> |
A nice review of "Brains" here.
I'll take it. |
Thanks again, Terry. Sure hope you're right about that apple. |
Matt,
I just hid my rah-rah on the R/A board (in response to your announcement of semi-finalist WotF status) because when I posted it, I'd forgotten I was on the R/A board. Anyone who sees this, my apologies for the off-topic post over there. And congrats again on the great showing! NEXT TIME! You'll get the big apple. |
Thanks, Terry and Amy! Yer the coolest.
Amy, did you get one of the signed copies? Tempest made me autograph a stack of them. Got home OK, other than being delayed on the runway in Houston for half an hour due to storms in the Dallas area. I'm glad to hear that your trip home was smoother than the ride out. Tell Paul I said hello. |
Bought a copy of Farthing at Worldcon -- looking foward to your story! (Gorgeous cover on that issue, by the way, isn't it?)
Hope you had a safe and easy trip home. Ours was pretty smooth. -- Amy S. |
Yay, Matt! |
Am pleased and proud to report that issue #4 of Farthing, featuring "Brains," by Yours Truly, came out in time for WorldCon. Copies are also available here.
WorldCon was a fabulous time, by the way. That is all. |
A nice review of "Aces and Eights" here.
Made me smile on an otherwise stressful day. |
Hey all, issue #9 of Neo-opsis, featuring "Aces and Eights" by Yours Truly, is now available here. |
Huh? Somebody say my name?
*looks around full of clueless alertness* *or alert cluelessness* |
Nah, your message got through OK, Kelly. I'm sometimes a little slow in getting back to people. Others can attest to the truth of this (right, Terry?).
Anyway, check your email for my response. |
Matthew, my message must not have gotten to you try to email me at angelgirls123@hotmail.com. talk to ya soon, kelly anderson self |
Uh, that's supposed to be "@" in between "msrotundo" and "yahoo," and a "." between "yahoo" and "com." But you probably figured that out.
Serves me right for not previewing. |
Kelly--
Wow! What a jaw-dropper to see you here! Drop me a line at msrotundo yahoo com, wouldya? Did I already say wow? |
Matthew how are you doing. I am excited to see that your hard work in writing even as a kid you now have published in some books. Kelly (Anderson) Self |
BTW, did I mention that story had been rejected 20 times? An object lesson on the power of persistence if I ever saw one. |
Thanks, Rae and Terry!
And right back atcha, Rae, with the congrats! I'll be lookin' for ya in the TOC. |
Matt, congrats on the Neo-opsis sale! I just got an acceptance from them, too. Maybe we'll be sharing a TOC. :-) |
Hey Matt, congrats on the Neo-opsis sale! |
Mystery Guest,
No, I didn't know that. *sigh* Must *everything* be violence-oriented these days? Are you a Rumor Miller, MG? |
sorry, I'm used to using the tab key to indent. Can't do that here.
Terry, Thought you would be interested to know the Benson Bunnies now have a "ferocious" looking bunny as one of their mascot versions. They have also adopted the caption "The Runnin' Rabbits". I am a proud mother of two Benson HS graduate scholars and one current student that looks to follow in his brothers' footsteps. They should however have kept the cute bunny as it might not have jinxed their athletic reputation. |
Hi, Terry! I had a good time. It was great meeting y'all.
Rowdy? That's nothing. You should see me at Nebraska games, or Joe Bonamassa concerts. |
Oops. Forgot I wasn't signed in. It's me, Terry. *waves* |
Hey, Matt, nice meeting you last evening! And yes, it usually IS that rowdy at those dinners. |
Thanks, Terry! |
Got your email, Matthew - check for my reply.
And much good luck on the rewrite - |
Thanks, Jackie! Best of luck to you, too! |
Hey, Matthew, email me? Please? |
Good luck with the rewrite to Farthing! Fingers crossed for you and me both.
Jackie |
I'm delighted to be once again sharing a TOC with you, Matthew! |
Hey, Matthew! Go check your yahoo email, guy! |
That is *so* cool, Matthew! International! Zowee! CongoRats to you! |
Hey, all,
Issue #5/6 of UK magazine Here & Now, featuring "Alan Smithee Lives in Hell" by Yours Truly, is now available here. I notice that I'm once again sharing a TOC with phellow Phobian Eugie Foster. Now I'm internationally obscure. |
Oh dear, they're all over the map, and each one changes at will. BE was considered "emo" but Oberst started a short-lived "side project" called Desaparecidos that issued one EP and one LP, called Read Music Speak Spanish (had nothing obvious to do with the album content) that was kind of punk-protest-folk, against suburban sprawl and the vacuity of suburban life...The last big album BE had quite a few country-flavored pieces on it but not
C & W "themes" ...they're bringing out TWO new albums in a short while the gists of which no one is saying yet. Cursive has been more like straight-on rock & roll, lots of yelling and over the top emotions. The Faint leans toward the techno industrial side...Now It's Overhead (these are all Saddle Creek bands, BTW, I have limited disposable income so I only get to a few a year & I know I'll love the SC ones) is...hard to describe. Rock, I guess...kind of ballads but not sweet & light. Then there's Azure Ray, beautiful ethereal two-female harmonies, with dark and troubled lyrics...like I said, all over the map. Actually you can hear samples of all of them on the SC website: www.saddle-creek.com. They've got a "radio" in the lower-left corner of their front page (after the page where you choose Flash or HTML). And each of their bands has links from the SC site for listening to more samples, I think. |
What kind of music are the Omaha bands playing? |
Yup, as it happens, both hubby and I were Bunnies. Benson Bunnies, not the...other kind. So was my dad, actually. So it's a long family tradition. Over the years the occassional testosterone-poisoned Student Govt. would try to get the fairly realistic Bunny image replaced by a Ferocious Macho Bunny but they always failed. Personally, I prefer the cuddly-wuddly realistic-looking bunny. Then the opposition is *totally* shocked when we mop up the field with them, heh heh.
Well, I don't hear much about "the next Seattle" anymore, I suspect because none of the Saddle Creek bands that are hitting it big, give a hoot about Seattle or being compared to it. However, Omaha *is* becoming the place to relocate for a lot of bands, not just emo/indie bands. There was an article in the paper about it last week, in fact. Also, just being able to tell a venue agent that you're *from* Omaha, that you *know* C0n0r 0bers+ or you've opened for the Faint, or have worked with T!m K@sher - is actually getting struggling Omaha bands bookings around the country. Another factor is that the hard core Saddle Creek bands don't give a hoot about getting played on MTV, where most of the "buzz" about "the next Seattle" is generated. So far at least, Bright Eyes, Cursive, and The Faint have all resisted blandishments from the big record labels, preferring to stay with Saddle Creek. You're not going to see them, probably, in your city's big arena. But keep an eye on the medium sized or even underground venues... Uh, that was totally fannish, wasn't it...*blush* |
Hi, Justin! Thanks! |
Ah, Benson High School--Home of the Bunnies. (For any non-Omahans reading this: No, I'm not making this up.)
And Saddle Creek Records--gotta love 'em. Especially if you're a Bright Eyes fan. Myself, I can't say that I've heard even one Bright Eyes tune. Maybe I'm the cultural wasteland. Hey, whatever happened to Omaha becoming the next Seattle? |
Hey Matthew! Congrats about the Paradox story!
Justin from the Phobos listserve |
Hi Matt! I live smack in the middle of town: we can see Benson High School out our back door. And here their marching band practice and football games, heh heh.
(Sorry if this is a double post - I hit the Send button by mistake) Anyway, of course it's not a cultural wasteland! We've got Saddle Creek Records! Woo hoo! And you, of course. :) |
Hi Matt! I live smack in the middle of town: we can see Benson High School out our back door. And here their marching band practice and football games, heh heh. |
Suppose I should have signed in before I sent that last one. Yeesh, what a rube . . . |
Thanks, gang! Yer too nice.
Terry: Another Omahan? Here? Too cool! Hey, who says the Midwest is a cultural wasteland? I'm in South O. How about you? Amy: It was great seeing you, too. Thanks for the kind words about "Pixeltown." I'm hoping to make Seattle this year, but unless I get nominated for a Hugo (HA HA HA HA--knew I couldn't say that with a straight face), Scotland is probably right out. I have no doubt that Tracy remembers that conversation about the t-shirt. I'll be sure to pass along your regards. Oh, and "Matt" is just fine, thanks. Later daze . . . |
Hey Matt (or do you prefer Matthew?)!
It was nice seeing you at Worldcon, and I really liked "Hitting the Skids in Pixeltown", which I finished before leaving the con. Maybe I'll see you in Scotland? (Or Seattle, for NasFic? I'm going to try to be decadent this year and do both. My husband has relatives in England, giving me that extra incentive -- like I need it.) Say hi to Tracy -- she probably won't remember, but we had a conversation about that great t-shirt she designed for you. |
Way to go, Matthew! And hey: OMAHA????? ME TOO!!! |
Way cool. Congrats! |
Issue #6 of Paradox, featuring "The Alternate History of Arthur Eisen" by Yours Truly, is now available here.
It's the first time my name's been featured on a cover. Well, I think it's kinda cool, anyway. |
