As we celebrate the Jubilee Year,
      strengthen our awareness
      of the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst,
      of the action of the Holy Spirit among us;
       - in the Church,
      as we gather together in prayer;
       - in the Eucharist,
      as we are fed with Christ's Body and Blood;
       - in others, especially the poor and needy,
      as we reach out to them in Christ's name;
       - in every act of peace, goodness and justice.

Help us remain confident and secure
   - not in our own strength and merits -
   but in the belief that the Spirit, your gift to us,
   works within the Church and in the world,
   uniting us, moving us forward.

Challenge us, dear God,
    comfort us,
    sustain us,
    as we celebrate, with joy, the year 2000.
