iCarnegie's Curriculum

The iCarnegie Software Systems Development curriculum is an excellent education and professional certification program offered through higher education and training partners worldwide.

iCarnegie's Software Systems Development (SSD) curriculum comprises 10 course modules and two levels of certification: Computer Programming (courses 1-5) and Software Systems Development (courses 1-10). The curriculum is designed to deliver practical professional training of software development personnel who can immediately add value to today's modern IT workplace. With each course, the iCarnegie education experience is one that blends strong career fundamentals with “hands-on” practical skills experiences through the development of real software projects.

The iCarnegie SSD curriculum focuses on important skills and knowledge needed in the industry, including object-oriented design and programming, user-centered interface design, computer systems and security from a development perspective, web applications design, database-driven web systems, software architecture, re-use and programming efficiencies, advanced programming techniques, commercial-grade software testing, and software engineering and project planning. Though students learn and apply modern technologies, such as Java and VB programming for example, their iCarnegie education will allow them to quickly adapt to new and changing technologies they will encounter over the course of their career.

iCarnegie and our partners produce top-level talent:
"There is everything to gain by taking the iCarnegie courses. The curriculum develops high-caliber students that have real-world experience. You can't go wrong."

-- Mr. John Saunders, iCarnegie SSD Certificate holder and graduate from Adelaide Institute of TAFE, South Australia; now employed as a full-time programmer/analyst, and also a gold-medal winner of a South Australia regional programming skills competition.

The iCarnegie curriculum is world-class in quality and effectiveness, as a result of the combination of these key characteristics:

  • Carnegie Mellon University Heritage and Affiliation -- iCarnegie was established by key faculty members of Carnegie Mellon’s computer science program, which has been consistently ranked by places like the U.S. News & World Report as being among the top schools in the field for both graduate and undergraduate studies. iCarnegie’s ongoing educational affiliation with Carnegie Mellon means their faculty remain actively involved with advancing and updating the curriculum.
  • Training that Successfully Blends Principle and "Hands on" Practice -- The curriculum combines practical experience and fundamental knowledge to produce the most qualified professionals. Students design and test a variety of real-world software applications, such as online auctions, retail cash register applications, chat and calendar applications, and database-driven e-commerce systems. Also, iCarnegie teaches a broad-based view of the field so that the students can become lifelong learners and contributors - and remain relevant even as technologies change.
  • A Global Community of Partners and Students -- iCarnegie's education model allows us to capture feedback and data from instructors and students all over the world, which finds its way back into continuous refinements and improvements to the curriculum. With more than 60,000 courses delivered to date, this is an invaluable volume of data that we use to ensure the most effective curriculum for our partners' training environments.
  • Certifications that Set Internationally Recognized High Standards -- iCarnegie certificate holders have successfully demonstrated their mastery of a challenging education program that is competitive on a global scale. Vendor-specific technologies are not the emphasis; instead, iCarnegie certifications focus on core skills that characterize professionals who are vital assets to employers. Students that earn iCarnegie Certifications in Computer Programming or Software Systems Development are among the best-trained in that field worldwide and are part of a new, exciting talent pool for employers.
