Social Security Administration Electronic Service Provision: A Strategic Assessment. This report examines the SSA’s proposed e-government strategy and provides advice on how the SSA can best deliver services to its user communities in the future.

Toward a Safer and More Secure Cyberspace. A broad research agenda that includes traditional, problem-specific studies as well as unconventional ideas is necessary to combat current and future cybersecurity threats. The report examines the vulnerabilities of the Internet and offers a strategy for future research aimed at countering cyber attacks.
May 9: CSTB releases
Software for Dependable Systems: Sufficient Evidence?. Daniel Jackson, chair of the
Committee on Certifiably Dependable Software Systems briefed the report at the National Security Agency's 7th Annual High Confidence Software and Systems Conference.
May 8: The National Science Foundation has announced a new program,
CreativeIT, to support "research that focuses on creativity to produce simultaneous advances in both computer science and creative cognition, creativity support tools, engineering design or science." The program was stimulated in part by CSTB's report
Beyond Productivity: Information Technology, Innovation, and Creativity.
May 4: CSTB releases
Engaging Privacy and Information Technology in a Digital Age, which examines how threats to privacy are evolving, ongoing information technology trends, and how society can balance the interests of individuals, businesses, and government in ways that promote privacy reasonably and efficiently.

Committee on Assessing the Impacts of Changes in the Information Technology Research and Development Ecosystem held its third and final workshop on
Perspectives on the IT R&D Ecosystem in Boston, Mass. Topics included policy dimensions in the IT R&D Ecosystem; the state of university-industry relationships in the Ecosystem; international dimensions of the IT R&D Ecosystems; emerging IT platforms-from sensors to Internet data centers, from open source to Web 2.0; and workforce and social issues.

Improving Disaster Management: The Role of IT in Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, which examines information technology's as-yet unrealized potential to improve how communities and the nation handle disasters and describes payoffs for disaster management that include more robust and interoperable communications, improved situational awareness and decision support, greater organizational agility, and enhanced engagement of the public.
