Henrik Schwarz - Live | 27-10-2007 15:47

A live album without any crowd noise, or indeed anything that suggests it was recorded in front of an audience, Live stitches together tracks played around the globe into one continuous mix. Sandwiched by two jazz pieces (one by Sun Ra; the other by Berlin-based producer/remixer Schwarz himself), the filling here is techno and house, but often with a world, funk or jazz outlook.

There are a number of highlights. Schwarz' remix of Norwegian singer Mari Boine's Vuoi Vuoi is a striking juxtaposition of haunting vocals and chilly beats, the Stop, Look & Listen/Kalimba Dance/Where We At section moves stealthily from African polyrhythms to spiritual house, and Jimis delivers more straightforward twisted-head techno. But what of his rather perfunctory remix of It's A Man's World? I'll let James Brown fans have the final say.
