BRISbites
About Us

BRISbites is a source of information about the local history of Brisbane managed by the Brisbane City Council Library Service. A Federation Community Projects Grant has funded this pilot version of the site, which covers seventy-eight suburbs in the Federal electorates of Brisbane, Griffith, Oxley, and Petrie. The remaining suburbs will be added over the next two years.

The site is designed to help school students and other community members find starting points and links to further sources for exploring the local history and environment of their suburbs. The brief contextual histories of each suburb are based around the six themes of the Studies of Society and Environment syllabus for years 1 to 10.

We welcome feedback about the site and suggestions for further sources and links. Please contact the Co-ordinator - Archives, Brisbane City Council, on 3403 8888 or email

For more assistance in finding sources about your local suburb, visit your local Brisbane City Council library.
