RENATER is the backbone that is dedicated to the research and teaching community in France. It connects its sites to each other and provides them with access to the Internet.

The main sites ( universities or important research centers ) are linked directly to the core network. For the others sites, the traffic is collected from the terminal users to RENATER through regional networks that are usually funded and managed by regional authorities.
