Sylvan Lake Curling Club
Background
The Sylvan Lake Curling Club is celebrating 80 years of curling having established itself in 1928 in a location close to the current RCMP building. Two sheets of ice progressed to our current building which was constructed mainly by volunteers in 1955. Since then, upgrades and good maintenance allow us to operate with 5 sheets of ice during the curling season.
During the season, we operate as a volunteer organization and offer leagues, clinics, bonspiels and fun activities. Our active membership is approximately 350.
The facility now remains open year around with rental provisions during the off season for meetings, large functions, and kitchen use.
Our ice maker, Joel Powlesland, is amongst the best in Alberta and provides us with wonderful and true ice during the curling season. During the past few years he has gained ice experience at provincial, national, and world level competitions.
