Top 100 Pinoy Komiks Serials is one of the flagship projects of Filipiniana.net. It will present to the public the all-time top 100 komiks serials that have been published in the Philippines from the 1929 to 2003. By the word komiks we are referring to the particular adaptation of American comics to the Philippine scene. This word has become internationally accepted as the appropriate lingo to describe the Philippine comics phenomenon.

These 100 outstanding komiks serials have been selected because of their thematic significance and their enduring contributions to Philippine popular culture as reflected by their continuous reuse in books, movies, radio plays and television shows.

Filipiniana.net hopes that by spotlighting this unique Philippine literary form more Filipinos will appreciate and continue one of the Philippines' own outstanding contributions to world art. Each of the nominated komiks serials will have an executive summary of its plot and will be accompanied by an animation will bring to life its illustrated pages with dramatized readings and sound effects.

In choosing our list, the project editors Dennis Villegas and Sally Eugenio have been guided by two principles. First is the influence these serials had on the komiks industry in the Philippines and the extent that they have been echoed or even copied by other komiks creators. Secondly we have also chosen those serials that have become immensely popular with Filipinos throughout the years and are continuously echoed in Pinoy pop culture and references, such as jokes, legendary stories, sequels, reruns, or adaptations into other media.

We know that our choices are bound to be controversial, since there are literally thousands of popular komiks serials to choose from, ever since the komiks strip was born in the 1920s up to the present, when new generations of komiks creators are still making a name for themselves in the Philippines and abroad. We fervently hope that Filipinos will use our komiks anthology as a starting point for further research or enjoyment.
