RBR Source Code Aquired by Sim Racers
[01-04-2006 | JZ | Comments (47) ]
On friday march 31 the the source code for richard burns rally was aquired by the swedish sim racers foundation.

The source code was previously owned by Gizmondo Europe Ltd, which was declared bankrupt earlier this year, and has now been purchased from the bankruptcy estate. The price of the sale was undisclosed. President of the SSRF, Nicklas Karlsson says, in a statement that "When we read about the bankruptcy of Gizmondo, we felt that this was a great opportunity to aquire the source code for the RBR project, and make it available to sim racers all over the world". According to the statement
Kangaroo, the track editor used to create the tracks for RBR, will be the first application to be released. Later on the whole source code for RBR will be made availabe to the public, but not before the physics component has been replaced. Nicklas Karlsson continues "RBR is very highly regarded in the sim community, however some aspects of the code are not up to the standards of the newly released sims, this is why we have chosen to replace the physics component.

[31-03-2006 | EC | Comments (0) ]
The series, consisting of 10 races, will crown the 1st Richard Burns Rally Game World Champion, but at the same time it will assign the Italian Champion title (CIIR) for the 2006 season, title that can be won only by Italian drivers who will race in the 7 scheduled rallies.

The will of the Organization to grant fun to the lot of fans that joined the site in these months and the need to conjugate both technical and organizational requirements fused together, generating an innovative system which will accompany virtual drivers during a risen of personal sporting caree.

Initially the structure seems very articulated, anyway you will soon notice it is more simple than it looks, fair and very realistic: to drive your car to the finish line of a rally will give you big gratifications. You will be put in a new dimension of the online racing!

Richard Burns Rally - A Year On
[22-01-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
A little over a year ago, I submitted my review of Richard Burns Rally for the PC to SimHQ. At the time I suspected that RBR would become a new classic and would achieve the kind of status and renown that venerable Grand Prix Legends has enjoyed.

Developer Warthog was sold off shortly after the release of the second and final patch, and is now part of Gizmondo Studios. They are working on supplying content to the Gizmondo handheld device.

And on a terribly sad note the world has lost first Michael "Beef" Park in an accident, and then Richard Burns. Succumbing to his serious illness, Richard found peace on Friday, November 25, 2005.

Richard Burns RallyWhat better way to honor the memory of these men than by taking a second look at the simulation that bears the name of the 2001 World Driver's Champion, and what is very likely the finest driving simulator you can buy for approximately $ 25. That is a great bargain for the amount of simulation you get.

Grand National 1970 Interview
[24-11-2005 | IS | Comments (0) ]
Recently, Jim Kerekes, aka DT99, dropped me a line to let me know of a soon to be released mod for NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, the Grand National 1970 mod. Unfortunately, in my excitement at this opportunity, I asked a bunch of questions not pertaining to the mod (it may be the case there is no such thing as a dumb question, but there sure are wrong ones …), so now it is time to shape up and do it right. So join me in my trip back into the Golden Age of NASCAR …
