API Support
- HLLAPI, EHLLAPI,
WinHLLAPI
- HostExplorer
supports the multiple
HLLAPI DLLs for complete
compatibility with
Attachmate's® Extra! for
Windows© and DCA's Irma
for Windows©. These
interfaces allow other
Windows programs to
communicate and control
the 3270 and 5250
emulator.
- OLE 2.0
- OLE
Automation Server support
to allow native access
from high level languages
such as Visual Basic 4,
Visual C++, Delphi, etc
- DDE
- Dynamic
Data Exchange, commonly
referred to as DDE, is
used for interprocess
communications. It allows
programs such as Excel,
Word for Windows, and
Visual Basic to interface
with the 3270 emulator.
With the DDE interface,
you can create new
terminal sessions, enter
data, retrieve screens,
transfer files, and even
run macros. Unlike the
EHLLAPI interface which
is a low-level
programmatic interface,
typically from C or C++,
the DDE interface in
HostExplorer is designed
to be used from high
level languages such as
Visual Basic or Word
Basic.
- For
example, with the DDE
interface, you can write
macros in Word for
Windows to log you into
the mainframe, transfer a
file to the mainframe,
and then send mail
automatically.
- The
DDE interface included
with HostExplorer is
compatible with
Attachmate's® EXTRA! for
Windows© DDE interface.
This is designed to
minimize the amount of
work required to port
applications to
HostExplorer.
- BASIC Scripting
- A
complete BASIC scripting
language is included to
facilitate task
automation.
