In 1991 we carefully reviewed our company's values and established missions for the organization. Our social mission is: "We will be active members of our communities, promote social responsibility, and encourage environmental awareness." The MathWorks people actively participate in realizing the social mission. Here's what we do:
Corporate giving. Every year we make donations
to various organizations throughout the world. Most of the donations
go to local organizations that will support our business values of
promoting math and science education and supporting the volunteer
efforts of the MathWorks people. |
Yearly activities. The activities are designed to encourage MathWorks people to get involved in their communities. Examples of these activities are: serving dinner at the Pine Street Inn, participating in City Year, nature walks at our local Audubon Sanctuary, recreation trips with local student groups, training sessions for math teachers and students on "real world" applications of mathematics, sponsoring the town education fund raising events in our building, and our scholarship auction. |

Recycling. The company uses recycled materials
for our documentation and packaging as well as encouraging employees
to recycle paper throughout the building. |
A-thon matching. The MathWorks matches the pledges
of employees for recognized walk-a-thons, dance-a-thons, bike-a-thons,
etc. |
The
MathWorks continues its ongoing support for the Dana Farber Cancer
Institute by sponsoring the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge.
Disaster Relief. As
the need arises, we make special donations to relief organizations.
In the past we have given donations to help people experiencing famine,
earthquakes, and flooding. |
Scholarships. Every year we fund scholarships
for college bound students from four local high schools. This year
we also sponsored a scholarship for the Massachusetts State Science
Fair. |
Let
the bidding wars begin! The MathWorks annual auction in March '97
raised over $15,000 for the Steppingstone Foundation.

Cause-related marketing. We
like to support charities that not only provide aid but also contribute
to our business goals. It is our belief that this is a win/win situation
since these donations hinge on our business success. |
