"QT-QueerTelevision," Citytv's new, weekly, 30-minute, converged TV/ internet program offers a rare glimpse into the lives and loves and of gay, lesbian, bi, trans and open-minded straight people around the world. It has spanned two seasons.
Web content accompanying the show invites viewers behind the scenes. QTonline.com has been nominated for "Most Popular Website" in association with the Gemini Awards. (If there was a "Homecoming Queen" category, we would try for it too!) The website offers additional information and perspectives as well as featuring a range of follow-up on-line activities which turns viewers into participants. As the show is on hiatus, viewers will not be able to add their input to the many messages other viewers had during the original broadcast.
An outgrowth and evolution from CP24's ground-breaking "The Q-Files," "QT-QueerTelevision" celebrates non-conformity, prompting viewers — straight and gay — to take pride in their individuality. From inspirational profiles to investigative stories to fun features, this glossy TV/internet magazine showcases not only the community's on-going civil rights issues, but the innovators, tastemakers and just plain folks who make up the "QT-QueerTelevision" community: lovers, partners, parents, politicians.
Cheeky, without losing sight of the ordinary, "QT-QueerTelevision" also deals with a range of lifestyle issues: where to eat, dance, shop, travel, find God, save taxes, stay healthy, appreciate art, create family, reconcile difference (or not).
"In 1998, Citytv became the first commercial TV station in North America to launch a regularly scheduled program about gay, lesbian and trans cultures," said Moses Znaimer, President/Executive Producer of Citytv at the launch of "QT-QueerTelevision". "In 2000, we not only remain the sole commercial broadcaster to do so, but we're proudly taking the program to a higher level of production and distribution in association with PlanetOut."
On "QT-QueerTelevision," interactivity is the chosen lifestyle. The experience is closet-free...
