Aro SUV: Rugged ride from Romania
A MIAMI COMPANY IS THE LATEST TO TAKE A STAB AT BRINGING THE ROMANIAN MILITARY VEHICLE ARO TO THE UNITED STATES.
For drivers who have always had the urge to take their SUV off road but have been afraid to do so, John A. Perez says he has the vehicle for you.

Chevy injects flair into Malibu redesign
Somewhere between cheap, small cars with little wheezing engines and gas-guzzlers, there is the midsize sedan, costing $18,000 to $25,000, and offering fuel efficiency form the mid-20s to low-30s miles per gallon.

Turbos no longer an exotic option
More car buyers are faced with the turbo decision as turbos appear in more mainstream models as options or even standard features.
To turbo or not to turbo? Hilna Moskowitz didn't know her Volvo was turbocharged when she bought it. ''All I knew was the car had great acceleration on the test drive,'' said Moskowitz, a 57-year-old psychologist from Wilmington, Del. ``I don't care what you call it. I love the power I have when I need it.''

    CAR TALK
Minivan or SUV? There are key differences
Dear Tom and Ray: My wife and I recently took the ''Do You Need an SUV?'' quiz on your website. The results gave us some alternative suggestions, including minivans and ''compact'' SUVs. My wife asked: ''Why are minivans any better than SUVs? They're both oversized, and they both get lousy mileage, etc.'' I valiantly replied that minivans ride lower to the ground, so they cause less damage to other cars in accidents. She wasn't convinced. So why is a minivan a better alternative to an SUV? My wife...

    INSIDE OUTBOARDS
Outboard gone sour? Sorry, no lemon law
Is there such thing as a lemon law for outboard motors? We have never heard of a lemon law for outboards. Still, we find that most of the time the manufacturers will back up a product even if it's out of warranty. The reason is they want to keep up their reputation and satisfy the customer. This doesn't mean they'll replace your engine at no cost, but they will try to help if they think the engine might have a production flaw.

Sienna's back with added power, space
Toyota Sienna arrives with more power, space The first thing to appreciate about the new Toyota Sienna minivan, after trekking across the mall parking lot with packages in tow, is the automatic rear hatch. Push a button on the key pod and step back with a sigh and a smile.

    SOUTH FLORIDA BOATING

    CAR TALK
Carry-on AC a cool idea, but requires some work
Dear Tom and Ray: A few summers ago, the air conditioner on my 1993 Dodge Caravan went out. The cost to fix the unit (from two different sources) is $1,700 to $2,000. The car is not worth that much, so I have not fixed it. Last week, while walking through a Home Depot I saw a portable, stand-alone air conditioner on sale for $595 (you can see where I'm going with this). The unit requires a 115-volt connection to operate it. Can I get an adapter at Radio Shack, buy the rolling air conditioner and...
