HIPP II (Hifn Intelligent Packet Processing) is the next step in Hifn's successful HIPP architecture and product line. Hifn was the first company to introduce a security processor with intelligent packet processing to offload the NPU by handling both packet transformations and protocol processing, resulting in increased system efficiency. With HIPP II, Hifn has incorporated additional, advanced features that enable higher overall system throughput.

New functionality

Faster IPsec & SSL Performance:
The HIPP II line of security processors provides multi-protocol processing for IPsec and SSL at OC-48 FDX system rates and up to 4,500 SSL session set-ups per second.

Improved SSL Capabilities:
HIPP II, not only provides faster math acceleration for SSL Public Key processing, but also handles the entire SSL handshake, which otherwise involves multiple function calls and CPU interrupts that can bog down a system bus and NPU, even at OC-3 speeds.

Dual interfaces:
HIPP II provides simultaneous use of 33/66MHz PCI for the control path and the independent 32-bit streaming input & output buses for the data path.

Common architecture and design

System designers who have implemented HIPP I into their designs need not worry about future design issues when developing higher-performance products, as both HIPP I and HIPP II (as well as future generations) are software compatible. Plus, all HIPP II processors are pin compatible.
