Call Nassau Legis. Denise Ford a woman for all parties.
Ask Amy:
Dear Amy: Our daughter is a 19-year-old student living in our home. She gets good grades and she doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs.
I rarely recommend buying software unless a corporation or
a rich uncle is footing the bill. For our more typical readers at home, there
are oodles of superb, free, open-source applications that meet just about any
need.

Bemoaning the problem, demanding solutions - that's always
been the easy part of immigration reform. As the U.S. Senate went and proved
again, the legislative rat trap is constructed from the details.

"Things Being What They Are," which is getting its East
Coast premiere at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theatre, is set in a suburban condo
development on the East Coast. It could be Long Island, but it probably isn't.

Last fall at Adelphi University's freshman orientation
lunch, Joseph Geraci touted the school's alumni association. That may seem a
bit premature, as the students had miles to go before being in a position to
start writing donation checks.

For Benny Feldman, peace of mind is worth $32 a month.
Years have passed since I inspected the field work of the
World Bank, which enhanced its good deeds last week by firing Paul Wolfowitz.
The "architect of the Iraq War" was technically allowed to resign, but why
split hairs over a man who spits on his comb before raking it through his
eyebrows?
John Wayne, who would have turned 100 years old next
Saturday, left behind a body of work as intimidating and as massive as his
screen persona. He worked in more than 70 pictures, a few of them great, some
of them close to greatness and some lacking any interest beyond the magnetism
of his presence. Twenty-eight years have passed since his death, and there
still are people all over the world willing to sit through even the worst of
his films only because he's in it. Little wonder, then, that Wayne's centenary
finds us awash in a tidal wave of commemorative DVDs.
GARDENING
I was a fledgling garden columnist when a kindly mentor
named Anna Feile gave me some invaluable advice. "Don't be afraid to take
chances," she said. "The garden is a very forgiving place. And learn your Latin
- you'll never be taken seriously if you don't know the Latin names of
plants."
