Article Collaboration and Improvement DriveThe Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive works on an article that needs a lot of help to reach featured-article standard. The subject of this week's article improvement drive is Icelandic language:
You can still help with last week's article, Science, or help pick next week's article. Good Article Collaboration of the weekThe Good Article Collaboration of the week works to polish already good articles to the highest of standards. This week's improvement drive is Great Barrier Reef: The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of roughly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands that stretch for 2,600 kilometres (1,616 mi) and cover an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (132,974 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. You can still help pick next week's article. Core Topics CollaborationThe Core Topics Collaboration of the Fortnight works to polish essential Wikipedia topics. The current collaboration is Europe. Europe is one of the seven traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area, covering about 10,180,000 square kilometres (3,930,000 sq mi) or 2.0% of the Earth's surface. You can help pick the next Core Topic collaboration article. |

Other collaborationsActive improvement teamsMaintenanceHelp clear up the backlog of articles to be merged! Merging is the process combining two (or sometimes more) articles in to a new article, or adding the content of one article to another. You'll need to be familiar with the associated templates. Before you begin, you need to know the details of merging and moving pages. After you read that, you're ready to begin consolidating and improving articles! WikiProjectsWikiProjects are ongoing team efforts to improve articles having to do with a particular subject, and to manage the logistics of that topic. Hundreds exist — examine the master list to find one that interests you. They are separate from, though may work with, Collaborations. Language translationWikipedia is not just in English! Versions exist in many different languages. To fill in some of the English Wikipedia's gaps, we translate articles from other languages into English. You can view a list of articles that need translation from any language, or, in a few cases, by only one language (this is only available for the more popular languages). |

Tip of the dayIf you need to illustrate an article about software or a website, a good tip is to take screenshots. In Microsoft Windows, a screenshot of the entire monitor, complete with taskbar, can be copied to the system clipboard by pressing the Print screen key. Alternatively, pressing Alt + Print screen will copy just the active window to the clipboard. You can then paste the clipboard into a program like MS Paint or Paint.NET using Ctrl-v, and then save it as an image file (for uploading to Wikipedia, for instance). In Mac OS X, simply prepare your screen to how you want it to look, then hit Command-Shift-3 (not the number pad 3) simultaneously. The new image will appear as a PNG on your desktop. You can then crop it in Preview (select there area and then hit Command-K). When uploading, be sure to use an appropriate copyright tag (such as software screenshot or web screenshot).
