Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels presented the CAMIE awards to Charlotte’s Web.

Mark Steines (Entertainment Tonight), John Schneider (Smallville, Dukes of Hazzard) and 1993 Miss America, Leanza Cornett hosted the event. Dakota Fanning, Shirley Jones, and Olivia Hussey were among the CAMIE award winning stars and film-makers in attendance at the event, which marked the ceremony’s fifth year and its third in Hollywood.

Previous CAMIE winners and other supporters of the organization came out to support the 2007 CAMIE winners. Jon Voight, a 2006 CAMIE winner for his performance in Pope John Paul II, said, “Let me say congratulations to all of you CAMIE winners-I remember the thrill it was for me to win a CAMIE award. I’ve worn this scarf and this outfit to many awards shows-and this awards show is a very special awards show. I am very, very proud to be here, and to thank Dr. Glen Griffin, and Mary Ella, for starting this whole ball rolling many years ago when they had this idea. They just said, ‘We have got to do something for families’ and this is the result of that. So congratulations and thank you for allowing me to be part of the family.”

The foundation began when Dr. Glen C. Griffin and other concerned parents created www.moviepicks.org to help families find uplifting entertainment. Previous CAMIE winners include Radio, Miracle, Toy Story, and Remember the Titans.

Repeatedly throughout the evening’s presentation of the 2007 CAMIE awards, winners expressed appreciation for being recognized for creating the uplifting and inspirational films that the CAMIES are all about. Jeff Hephner spoke about receiving a CAMIE for his performance as Pat Conroy in The Water is Wide, saying, “I am a new father of three months and because of that, being a part of an event like this has new meaning for me. I think all the fathers out there know what I am talking about.”

Mark Steines (Entertainment Tonight), Leanza Cornett (Miss America 1993), and John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard) were the hosts of the 2007 CAMIE awards.

There were several fun moments on stage-including when Robert Tate Miller, screenwriter of Hidden Places, motioned to Shirley Jones and said, “It’s the day before Mother’s Day and we have America’s favorite Mom on stage-that seems appropriate!!!”

Later, Dakota Fanning thanked the CAMIE organization, and the cast and crew of Charlotte’s Web-including the 60 pigs that were on the set with her. “I wish I could name them all,” she said. “Because they do have names-but that would take probably a little too long for all of you!”

In what has become an unplanned tradition with every CAMIE awards ceremony, guests and CAMIE award winners lingered long after the close of the show in a unique display of enthusiasm for the evening’s proceedings-and everyone shared their excitement and anticipation for next year’s show!
