The Latest on WALHI Tsunami Recovery

WALHI is working on emergency relief and community empowerment in Aceh and North Sumatera. This is being done by revitalising local community organisations for the rapid recovery of civil society in the tsunami affected areas.

Our fundraising campaign is on hold as we prepare to conclude our emergency relief period. Please read Update 10 on WALHI Tsunamy Recovery which covers the following aspects: relief, community organising, advocacy, and plans for post relief period.

Bestari Raden: Defender of Indonesian Forests
“I was originally a civil servant”, read the opening of Bestari Raden's statement to the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations in Geneva, where he stood defending his cause. The statement, simple as it sounds, is a deep revelation of the extraordinary life of Bestari.
