Super collector Mario and the Dedham toy show.

ToyboxDX - 2 hours 5 min ago

I met with Mario today at the Dedham Collectable and Toy show. He had brought with him some toys form his collection, and it felt as if a circle had been completed by finally getting to meet and talk with him for the first time. Our collective appreciation of all things Gaiking paved the way for a fun conversation.

Nakajima: Pegas “small” MFV

ToyboxDX - 3 hours 54 min ago

This robot is such a nice guy. Nearly everybody likes him. But why?
Because he’s a bit fatty, has a very long nose and is blue?
Well maybe its a combination of everything. So what…I like him too.

This one here is the ca. 6,6” (17 cm) Missile Firing Sofubi from Nakajima.
I call him “small MFV” because there also is the big MFV-Talker.
Let’s start with the Box. Not so spectacular from the front, but specially
the back is very nice illustrated.
Mr.Fraser “rediscover” the good old animated Gif…so I MUST HAVE one here too ;-)

Sorry, the Gif is ca.500 kb big…but quality needs a frew kb’s.

Here the box “non-animated”.

Pegas comes with 3 missiles, a few cardboard targets and little vinyl “friend”.
Sorry I’m a cretin…is this little “friend” really friend.? What’s his name?
Please tell me the whole story in the BBS.

Here’s Mr.Pegas. Isn’t he cute…

Some close-up’s of his missile launchers.

BANG, BAAAANG…Gansta Pegas.

That’s it for today. More stuff as usual in the BBS.
Don’t forget to tell my how the name of his little alien friend is.

Mr. Lobo Is Set To Begin Production On The Tenth Season Of CINEMA INSOMNIA

Monster Island News - 20 November, 2010 - 19:25
MR. LOBO Is Set To Begin Filming The Historic 1oth Season Of CINEMA INSOMNIA ...... With A Little Help From His Freinds And Fans.

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Mr. Lobo

As most of you already know, I am a HUGE fan of the nationally syndicated late-night movie program "Cinema Insomnia" which stars local Sacramento icon, Mr. Lobo and a incredible cast of misfits and monsters, including the shows co-host, the lovely house-plant (yes, I said 'house-plant') Miss Mittens.

I actually stumbled upon the program back in 2003, when I purchased a DVD copy of the CI episode, "Gigantis the Fire Monster" (aka 'Godzilla Raids Again) on eBay. At the time, there was no formal DVD release for the often misunderstood "Gojira" sequel, so I took a chance on it.

Upon viewing the episode I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The show was a great tribute to the late-night horror movie showcases of the 1970s and early 80s. You know, back in the day when guys used to dress up like "Dracula" and make corny jokes about the movies.

Yes, people used to do that sort of thing before we all got formally introduced to Cassandra Peterson's (Elvira) cleavage.

Many of you may be too young to remember these shows, but for many of us, it was the only way to view the classics like "Frankenstein", 'Godzilla" and "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" during the 'dark ages' before Cable TV, VHS, DVD, and The Internet.

Lobo, had the whole thing down to a science, funny gags based on the movies, weird guest stars, and an occasional bit of 'T & A', just for good measure.

Any way, to make a long story short, I contacted Mr. Lobo to tell him how much I loved his program, and he was surprised to learn that someone was actually 'willing' to pay for a copy of one of his shows ...... and actually enjoyed it. Needless to say, we have been good friends ever since and I have become a life-long fan "Cinema Insomnia".

That brings me to the subject at hand. Mr. Lobo is set to begin work on the historic 10th season of CI, but as all good independent TV show producers are these days, he is in need of some financial backing to get the whole thing off the ground.

Here is the press release:

Mr. Lobo is an independent producer and host of a TV show called CINEMA INSOMNIA that will soon be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Mentored by Creature Features host Bob Wilkins and given nods from Elvira and other late night horror hosts—Mr. Lobo’s show a throwback to late night movie programs of yesteryear as well as a platform for indie films, genre classics, shorts, gems from their archives, satire, absurdist humor, interviews, and looks at the off beat side of entertainment. This special blend of weirdness has been seen on 100’s of channels coast to coast.

“It’s not been easy. Most of what you see on commercial TV is a product and it’s corporately controlled.” Says Lobo in a video proposal uploaded to KICKSTARTER, a website used by indie filmmakers, musicians, and artists to fund their creative projects.

“You hear a lot of hullabaloo about independently produced movies—but not so much television. Cinema Insomnia is a labor of love…”

In recent seasons, however, financial setbacks have made it difficult to add very many new episodes into the syndication line up. Stations are happy to repeat the 30 or 40 shows in their cue. Halloween Specials and other new shows are purely a service to the fans.

For the 10th anniversary Mr. Lobo plans to pull out all the stops and do Cinema Insomnia’s first full season in several years. Like in their hey-day back in 2003-2004 they want to produce 26 brand new full episodes for the 2011-2012 season. This is expected to electrify the fans! The Kickstarter funds promise to help them meet this goal.

The episodes will be seen on AMGTV stations (http://www.amgtv.tv/) as well as other broadcast TV stations across the country, on demand via Amazon, Mevio, Livestream and Roku, and released on DVD by Apprehensive Films(thegrindhouse.net).

On the CINEMA INSOMNMIA 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY Kickstarter page backers may get exciting rewards. A link on cinemainsomnia.com and a 10th Anniversary button at the $5 level, $25 also gets you a certificate of appreciation and an 8X10 signed by Mr. Lobo! If you happen to donate the full ten grand goal you can co-host an entire show! There are lots of levels in between so check out all the rewards at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cinemainsomnia/cinema-insomnia-10-year-anniversary.

Trust me, this will be money well spent people! "Cinema Insomnia" is one of the best programs on television today and we all need to do our part to ensure that the 10th season of this landmark series gets made.

How else will we all get enjoy quality films like, "Creature", "Star Crash" and "Monster From A Prehistoric Planet"?

I ask you, how?

Just think of the children and how much joy a 10th season of CI will bring to them? Just think of the children.

Give a gift that will keep on giving for generations ...... what? ....... too much? okay, I'll stop.

Just give what you can.

The New ULTRAMAN ZERO Trailer!

Monster Island News - 20 November, 2010 - 18:58

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Youtube / Wikipedia / Avery Guerra

If you are a huge Ultraman geek like I am, than the new trailer for "Ultraman Zero The Movie: Super Deciding Fight! The Belial Galactic Empire" will be right up your ally.

Looks like the folks over at Tsuburaya Productions have pulled out all the stops for this one with some amazing CGI work combined with the traditional 'man in the suit' effects made popular by the studios founding father, Eiji Tsuburaya.

There is some "Pirates of the Caribbean" themed stuff in there that I don't understand, but overall the film looks like the kind of giant monster, or in this case, superhero, free-for-all that we all yearn for.

Her is the skinny on the film from Wikipedia:

Ultraman Zero The Movie: Super Deciding Fight! The Belial Galactic Empire is an upcoming Japanese film in the Ultra Series to celebrate the franchise's 45th anniversary. It serves as a sequel to Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie. The film will be directed by Yuichi Abe. The lead character Run (who serves as Ultraman Zero's human form) will be portrayed by Yu Koyanagi, the son of Bro. Tom of the Bubblegum Brothers. Other characters include Run's brother Nao, portrayed by Tatsuomi Hamada and Run's love interest Princess Emerana of Planet Esmeralda, portrayed by actress Tao Tsuchiya. The film will also feature a new version of Ultraman Belial called Galactic Emperor Kaiser Belia.

Along his journey in the film, Ultraman Zero will come across several allies collectively known as "Ultimate Force Zero" (ウルティメイトフォースゼロ, Urutimeito Fōsu Zero). One is Glenfire (グレンファイヤー, Gurenfaiyā), a free spirited warrior with a soul of burning magma from the Planet of Flames (炎の星, Honō no Hoshi). He wields the Fire Stick (ファイヤースティック, Faiyā Sutikku) as well as control over fire itself. Glenfire was originally the captain of the Pirates of Flames (炎の海賊, Honō no Kaizoku) traveling through space with the Avant-garde (アバンギャルド号, Uchūsen Abangyarudo Gō). The other is Mirror Knight (ミラーナイト, Mirā Naito), a being from the 2-D Planet of Mirrors (鏡の星, Kagami no Hoshi) who was originally charged with the duty to protect Planet Esmeralda from the attacks of Kaiser Belial. In addition to several mirror-based powers, he also performs the Mirror Knife (ミラーナイフ, Mirā Naifu) finisher attack. In addition to these living allies, Ultraman Zero meets the Jean-bird (ジャンバード, Janbādo), a spaceship with artificial intelligence from Planet Esmeralda that is passed down through the planet's royal family. It can transform into a humanoid robot that Nao can control called the Jean-bot (ジャンボット, Janbotto) by shouting "Jean Fight!" (ジャンファイト!, Jan Faito!). Jean-bot is armed with the Jean Blade (ジャンブレード, Jan Burēdo) on his right arm and the giant Battle Ax (バトルアックス, Batoru Akkusu). He can also execute the Beam Emerald (ビームエメラルド, Bīmu Emerarudo) finisher attack.

Kaiser Belial also gains two commanders to work under him in the film to control his empire: Iaron (アイアロン, Aiaron), who takes pride in his steel body, and Darkgone (ダークゴーネ, Dākugōne). All of them have control over robots called Legionoids (レギオノイド, Regionoido). The Legionoids come in an Alpha-type which is geared with a red drill for land combat and a Beta-type geared with a large bazooka for space combat.

All of the new characters in the film are based on the protagonists and antagonists of the Tsuburaya Productions television programs: Fireman, Mirrorman, and Jumborg Ace.

Since that info comes from Wikipedia, I can't say for sure if it is 100% accurate, but it sure sounds cool!

As was the case for most of the most recent entries into the "Ultraman" series, there is no word on any American release plans, either theatrically or domestically , for this one, so you should start looking for the Chinese DVD release at your favorite Anime shop beginning next summer.

KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS Being Remade In 3D

Monster Island News - 20 November, 2010 - 18:25
Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Screen Daily / Avery Guerra

Remakes and 3D films are all the rage these days, so is it any surprise that Stealth Media Group has hired Nuala Barton and Rene Sheridan to produce a modern, 3D, version of the 1977 cult film "Kingdom of the Spiders", which originally starred "Star Trek" alumni William Shatner?

Of course not.

If you recall, the original "Kingdom of the Spiders" was about a small Arizona town (Sedona) that was overrun by thousands of hungry tarantulas.

This time around, however, and if the promo poster to the right is any indication, it looks like a major city is set to face an epic infestation of arachnids this time, and not by only tarantulas, but all kinds of creepy crawlers.

The two producers made this rather benign comment about their upcoming film, “We are delighted to be working with Stealth Media’s Jason Piette, Sean O’Kelly and Michael Cowan to bring this cult classic back to larger than life, in 3D.”

Not much to go on there.

Look for more information on "Kingdom of the Spiders 3D" to crawl out from under the furniture soon.

EMPTY TRASH - Starring Rachel Grubb - To Debut At Minneapolis Underground Film Festival

Monster Island News - 20 November, 2010 - 18:02
Source: Rachel Grubb (Press Release)

Minnesota filmmakers J.L. Sosa and Tristan Corrigan eagerly await the worldwide festival debut of their 26-minute short film, “Empty Trash,” at the
Minneapolis Underground Film Festival.

It will bring a gag-inducing finish to the MUFF’s Short Story Film Showcase, at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. MUFF-goers can expect a fast- paced whirlwind of murder and bleak humor that Geek Tyrant called “great and disturbing” and Horror News Net said “ends with you wanting more.”

To order tickets, visit: Minneapolis Underground Film Festival

“Empty Trash” is a neo-noir crime drama/horror short about a paroled ex-con who is forced into executing a small-time heist that quickly descends into sadistic mayhem. It stars some of the edgiest performers to emerge from the Midwest independent fi lm scene: Loren Farrand, Wade Dienert and Alex Wade. Making a special appearance is legendary scream queen, screenwriter, producer, director and pin-up model Rachel Grubb (“Chimera Tribe: The Rakai,” “Bad Girls Burn In Hell,” “Why Am I in a Box?”)

“Empty Trash” was written, produced, edited and co-directed by Jorge Luis aka J.L. Sosa (“Moon Patrol,” “Donna, My Love”). Sosa’s greatest claim to fame is co-starring with cult moviemaker Ted V. Mikels in R.P. Whalen’s 2006 mockumentary “Mondo Collecto.” Sosa is also a freelance writer, reporter for the award-winning weekly newspaper the Hutchinson Leader, and contributor to the movie news website Film School Rejects.

Co-director and cinematographer Tristan Corrigan is a recently commisioned officer in the U.S.
Navy serving on the USS Gary. While attending Iowa State University, he worked on the crew
of the After Dark horror film, “Husk.” After several years of kicking ass for Uncle Sam on the high seas, he hopes to return to the film world with a vengeance.

The “Empty Trash” teaser trailer is online at www.vimeo.com/11191361.
