Featured Photos: "Bill's Birthday Bash" The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA - Jan. 10, 2009
Saturday night (1/10), The Fillmore in San Francisco once again hosted "Bill's Birthday Bash," an annual benefit for the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation. Celebrating what would have been legendary concert promoter Bill Graham's 78th birthday, the sold-out show kicked off with the historic San Francisco Mime Troupe, now in its 50th year.
Marcia Ball and her band followed with a brilliant, high-energy set, and were invited back to play with Bonnie Raitt , who was next on the roster. With the audience fully loosened up, the Funky Meters hit the stage, mixing trance-inducing, dreamy jams in with their old classics. Judging by the sea of smiling faces, it's safe to assume a good time was had by all.
The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation recently announced that it is planning to award approximately $200,000 in arts funding this year. According to a press release, the foundation has given away almost $2 million since its inception.
Here are some of the photos I took at the event.
