Wales education minister welcomes positive meeting with Thomas Cook | |
09 July 2007 Carwyn Jones, Minister for Education, Culture and Welsh Language had a constructive meeting with representatives from the travel company Thomas Cook earlier today (9 July) to discuss the company's Welsh language policy. During the meeting, Thomas Cook confirmed that it was committed to using both the Welsh and English languages and there was no ban on staff speaking Welsh, either socially or in a work context. It also said that there was no ban on speaking Welsh with its customers. Thomas Cook confirmed that they would continue to work with the Commission for Racial Equality and the Welsh Language Board to produce guidelines for their branches in Wales. Carwyn Jones said:

Yn ystod y cyfarfod, fe gadarnhaodd Thomas Cook eu bod yn cefnogi defnyddio Cymraeg a Saesneg ac nad oedd oeddent yn gwahardd staff rhag defnyddio'r Gymraeg, un ai'n gymdeithasol neu wrth drafod gwaith. Doedd dim gwaharddiad ar siarad Cymraeg gyda chwsmeriaid chwaith. Cadarnhaodd Thomas Cook y byddent yn parhau i weithio gyda'r Comisiwm Cydraddoldeb Hiliol a Bwrdd yr Iaith Gymraeg i ddarparu canllawiau i'w canghennau yng Nghymru. Dywedodd Carwyn Jones:
