Flaming Lips Unveil "Mega Deluxe" Mars Package

No use trying to top this man. It's all yours, Mr. Coyne (warning: just a little NSFW):

Phew! Okay, let's recap. As that genial weirdo up there-- Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, as you know-- noted, his Lips will offer up a "mega deluxe Christmas on Mars package" through their webstore for a limited time. In addition to the DVD of the long-awaited film and a CD of its score, those who opt for the fancy package will receive a popcorn box with "real Flaming Lips popcorn stuffed inside of it," an "Eat Your Own Spaceship" bumper sticker, a replica of the tickets from the screenings of the film earlier this year, trading cards of the band's members, and a t-shirt. The first 1,000 such sets will get their popcorn box autographed by the band, and packaged at random in ten of those initial 1,000 will be a golden ticket that will get you VIP admission to the band's New Year's Eve gig in Oklahoma City. And with that, I believe we now have our dictionary definition of "mega deluxe".

In addition to the standard and mega deluxe editions of Christmas on Mars, there's also a vinyl version coming our way. In addition to the film, you'll get the score on a Martian green LP, plus a white 7" sporting some seasonally-appropriate selections and the band's take on Spacemen 3's "Lord Can You Hear Me" (later recorded by Spiritualized as well). All incarnations of Christmas on Mars are due November 11 from Warner Bros.

In other news, the Lips led their March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons through the streets of Oklahoma City over the weekend, and, naturally, it was amazing. The band also interpreted NBC's tri-chime theme for a forthcoming series of promos. And they're apparently playing a hometown show on New Year's Eve, if that silly bearded fellow up there is to be believed.
