Bio: Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
Thanks, Carol! |
Glad you liked that picture, John. Excellent (and hilarious) story! |
Thanks, Lavie! |
Hey John,
Just read "Fourteen Experiments in Postal Delivery" over at SH - excellent! :-) Lavie. |
Wow! Congratulations, John!
Justin |
Sheila Williams at Asimov's is buying my short story, "Bullet Dance." Yay! |
Thanks for the encouragement, Jackie. This is a story on which I spent a good month sweating over revisions, late last spring. I wasn't entirely happy with the results, but after making little progress for a month, didn't feel I could do any better, and rather than waste more time, decided to send it out and see how it fared. |
John, my condolences about the rejections on the story. But man, if you're getting feedback from Doug at RoF and GVG himself from F&SF;, then wow, that's pretty damn impressive. Rewrite, resumbit. Good luck.
Jackie |
Congratulations on another sale John! I've still got to get to my local bookstore and pick up a copy of the latest WotF anthology so I can read "In the Flue."
Ray |
Nice sale, John! Congrats!
Justin |
Sale to Strange Horizons of 4500 word short story, "Fourteen Experiments in Postal Delivery." Yay! |
Holy crap, you won the BIG one!!! MegoSUPERdooperULTRA congrats, John!!! |
Oops, Terry, meant to reply sooner.
The 'Gold Award' is simply the Writers of the Future grand prize for the year. Each quarter a first, second, and third prize winner is chosen. The grand prize is chosen from the four quarterly first prize winners. The WotF website sometimes refers to it as the 'Grand Prize' and sometimes as the 'Gold Award'. The prize itself is a golden quill pen in a lucite pylon. I would guess that's where the name comes from. The traditional order of athletic medals is gold/silver/bronze, of course. (The other prizes are also pens in pylons.) Lizzie -- is that you, Lizzie L.? Or are you an obscure female relative of LBJ? Let's see if my Google-fu is up the task of finding your email address. |
John, where are you? Find me and write to me -- Lizzie Bird |
OK, I'm ignorant. What, exactly, is the LRH Gold Award? 'Cause, I figure, you won't mind telling me. *g*
But I really don't know. And super-dooper congratulations, too, btw! |
Aww, thanks, Bear! *feels loved* |
Did we mention we were proud of you? 'cause, yanno. We are. |
Thanks, Amy and Jim! The volume's been printed -- I signed a bunch after the ceremony -- and I've been anxiously waiting until it shows up on Amazon, but no dice so far. |
Congrats on the Gold, John!!! |
John,
Congrats on winning the big one for WoTF. Wow! -- Amy S. |

Congrats, John, on winning the WOTF Gold Award!!! |
That was it! I never miss FB if I can help it.

Whoops, sorry John. I must have read something of yours somewhere else. But where was it? (racks brain...)
SarahP |

Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet is buying my short story, "Errant Souls." The next issue is said to be full-ish, so it will probably appear in the one after that.
Happy! |
Hey, thank you, all, for the cheers!
I don't check my page much, and just stumbled on it today, and found all the congratulations forthe WotF win. Thanks, all! |
Mega congrats, John. What a way to start your pro career!
Patrick |
Wow John! Congratulations. As I have told you in the past, you are one of my very favorite authors from the OWW and it is a well deserved win. Frankly, I have been amazed that your stories hadn't seen more print thus far.
Please share which story took the prize. Any of the stories we've reviewed on the OWW? All the best, Ray |
Way to go, John! Good luck on getting the big one. |
John,
Congrats on the WOTF sale! Keep us posted on when it comes out (sometime next year, I imagine?) -- Amy Sisson |
