Thanks, Melissa! |
Congratulations! |
Eric, Terry, Lisa -- thanks!! |
Your fifth sale to Realms of Fantasy?! That's mind-boggling to us mere mortals. Congratulations, and definitely keep doing what you're doing!
|
Way to go, Josh! |
Congratulations on the RoF sale, Josh! |
Thanks, Justin! |
Wooohooo! Congrats on the sale, Josh!
Justin |
A huge ditto! :-D |
Thanks for the kind words, Jackie. Looking forward to reading your story! |
Congratulations, Josh! I've read some of your previous ROF sales, and damn, you are one talented writer! Maybe our stories will be in the same issue... |
I just sold one of my favorite stories to Realms of Fantasy!
It's called "Stephanie Shrugs" and it's about rock and roll, inspiration, and finding what it is in the world that gives your life some peace. I really dig this story and I'm happy it found such a cool home. This is my fifth sale to Realms. Woo hoo! |
Thanks, ya'll! |
Whoo hoo all right! Well done!
Clyde. |
Great sale, Josh! Congrats!
Justin |
Super! And Polyphony's a great home! |
It's been a bit slow lately, but I'm happy to report the sale of my story "Chasing America" to Polyphony 6, the latest in a wonderful series of anthologies.
This is easily my favorite story I've written, so I'm especially excited that it found such a great home. Woo hoo! |
Thanks, Melissa! |
Woohoo! Congratulations!
(I tried to congratulate you on the ROF board too, but I'm not on my own computer + couldn't remember my password, so I couldn't post.) |
Thanks, Ruth! |
Congratulations, Josh! |
Thanks, ya'll! |
Holy cow. I bow at your virtual feet! Huzzah!
Jackie |
Way to GO, Josh!

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!
congrats, Josh! Justin |
Got the official word today that Shawna is buying my story "In the Thicket, With Wolves" for Realms of Fantasy. This will be my fourth sale to RoF!
The title is an homage to Lansdale, though not nearly as cool as his "On the Far Side of the Cadillac Desert, With Dead Folks." It takes place in East Texas, one of Lansdales favorite settings, but that's where the Lansdale similarities end. "In the Thicket..." is a story of a young pregnant girl who learns that her child will be mentally challenged. She can't stand the thought, and winds up bartering with some not-so-nice "wolves" that live deep in the swampy thicket. She wants a better life for her child, but the cost might be too high. Nice way to start the weekend! |
Thanks, Jackie & Melissa!
This is my third story for RoF, though it's much different in style and content from the other two. |
And a good story it is, too. |
JOSH!!!
Dude, that is SO cool. This is what, your second story at ROF? You're a repeat performer! Jackie |
Found out today that my story "A Better Place" is in the June 2006 issue of Realms of Fantasy. |
Don't recall ever wearing shorts over jogging pants. |
Josh,
did you ever wear shorts over your jogging pants, or was that a high school imposter who merely shared your name? Waverly novels |
It's been a bit slow around here, but I finally have some writing related news to report.
My YA short story "Tiny Saphire and the Big Bad Virus" is now available in the latest issue of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine. www.andromedaspaceways.com |
Hey, I've got a new story available to read at Lone Star Stories. You can check out "Can't Buy Me Faded Love" here:
http://literary.erictmarin.com/faded.htm C'mon, it's free! |
Just because you don't have enough ways to waste time online, I've started a LiveJournal.
You can check it out at: http://www.livejournal.com/users/joshrountree/ Or not... |
Thanks, Eric! |
Congratulations, Josh! Woo! |
Gracias, Justin! |
You're on a roll! Congrats!
Justin |
And December continues to rock.
I just got word that "Only the Young" will appear in the forthcoming anthology, Shadow Regions. Yeah, I'm psyched! |
Thanks, Eric & Lon! |
Congratulations, Josh! :-) |
And the one in L*S, too. :)
Lon |
I'm looking forward to reading that one, Josh!
Lon |
Also, "Possibly Grief" will appear in the forthcoming anthology, From the Trenches.
Woo hoo! |
I'm happy to report the sale of "Can't Buy Me Faded Love" to Lone Star Stories. It will appear in the February/March 2006 issue.
I know you've ALL been wondering what would have happened if John Lennon had teamed up with Texas' own country legend Bob Wills. In February, you're going to find out. Yeah, I'm weird. |
Thanks, Eric! And I wouldn't plug it if I didn't like it. Always good stuff. |
That's an entertaining and informative interview, Josh. Oh, and thanks for the Lone Star Stories plug! :-) |
Thanks, ya'll!
So, are you just dying to know what I'm reading these days, what my favorite food is, or what up and coming writers I really think you should check out? I didn't think so. But don't let lack of interest stop you. Head over to the Carnifex Press website for a quick trip through my demented little brain. Armand just posted his interview with me at: http://carnifexpress.net/index.php?cat=57 And while you're there, buy some Carnifex Press stuff. I would suggest the Revenant antho, but perhaps I'm biased... |
Congratulations! |
Congratulations! |
Congratulations x 2, Josh! :-) |
Thanks, all! And another sale to report...
Aberrant Dreams will publish "Apple Red" in a forthcoming issue. |
Down, Samphire! Down, boy! |
Ditto what they said! Congrats!
Justin |
Congrats on the Sale, Josh!
I see Mikal is getting jealousy issues again.... |
Yeah, I'm sort of slow. |
'Bout time you made it there with the rest of us, pardner...;p |
Hey, a sale!
I got word from Surreal that they'll be buying my weird western, "The Last Days of Preacher Samuel." Sweet! |
Sigh...I don't get no respect at all. |
Three--Mom changed her mind...;p |
Looks like I'm up to four if you include my mom. |
by the way, how many fans do you have? |
Josh, thanks for the heads up re: Son and Foe. I had my reservations about the publication already. Now, hearing of your treatment, I will cross them off my submissions list.
You and Mikal get that story back out there! I was promised that story, and I want to read it! |
I had sent them some. Had. |
Like Mark, I noted this market as a potential place to send my stories, but that won't happen now. |
That was sneaky. I'm sorry it happened to you guys. Thanks for the warning. |
Thanks, all. Based on the contract, I think the guy is legally within his rights here.
But ethically, it ain't so cool... |
This is grossly unprofessional. Josh, I am so sorry. As an editor, as well as a writer, I find this treatment truly horrible.
Jackie |
Yeesh. I share Lon's sentiments.
Their loss! |
Does this make me the third fan? : )
Sorry that happened to you and Mikal, and thanks for the heads up on that market. Always good to get that info before it's too late. |
I'd been thinking of submitting there, but now I won't bother. Thanks for the heads-up. Sorry you and Mikal got screwed over, and hope you have luck placing the story elsewhere. |
>Nor will you see any of my stories there in future issues.
Ditto that. What a horrible and unprofessional way to treat writers. After he's sought ad bucks using your name and kept you and Mikal's story off the market for however long, he decides to reneg on paying you according to the contract, and instead tries to throw you a fractional bone?! Feh. It would be different if he offered to hold it for the next issue, or something. After reading this, it appears to me that Son & Foe may not be ready for prime time, and if he's unwilling to pay authors he's contracted stories from AND unwilling to commit to include the story in the second issue, it makes me wonder if there will be a second issue... Lon |
Just a heads up to my three loyal fans.
You may recall that Mikal Trimm and I sold a story we co-wrote to the new online mag, Son and Foe. We executed our contract and worked through several rounds of edits with the editor. Our payment is due in October, and the magazine is set to debut November 1. Cool, right? We got an e-mail yesterday from S&F; informing us that he'd changed his mind about the story. It no longer fits with the theme of the first issue and due to a number of personal issues, he can no longer afford to pay us. Thus, he's releasing the story and won't be paying us the promised rate for our work. Instead, he's offered to pay each of us $30 -- roughly 13% of the promised price. Son and Foe will still go on with stories by other authors, but you won't see ours there. Nor will you see any of my stories there in future issues. Hopefully, since they've reneged on the contract, they'll stop using our names in an effort to solicit advertisers for the site. As of this writing, they're still promising a story by Josh Rountree and Mikal Trimm on their sponsor page. I don't want to get into a protracted discussion about this. I'm happy to take my marbles and play elsewhere. I just wanted to let everyone know not to expect our story in November. |
Every FF team has a bad week from time to time. Trust me, the Mighty Jackalopes shall rise again!
;p |
Now if you could only manage a fantasy football team.... |
Yeah, it's my little gift of sunshine to the world. ;) |
I remember "Flight" -- vivid and distubring. |
Thanks, Eric!
The latest issue of Shadowed Realms just hit the web and it contains my flash story "Flight." |
I enjoyed "Liberating the Tides of Time" very much, Josh. Well done! |
From opposite ends of my brain:
"Liberating the Tides of Time" is now available online in the new issue of KidVisions with some nifty artwork to accompany it. Also, "In the Lane, Snow is Glistening" is available in the new issue of Dark Discoveries magazine. So basically, whether you're a twelve year old with an interest in lost civilizations or an adult in need of some seriously depressing ice zombie horror, I've got you covered. |
Not a prob. |
The last post was supposed to go in the Pet Peeve column. Don't know how this happened. Sorry Josh! |
Yep! |
Cool. Reprints are good. Keeps the stories out and available. |
Just got word that the folks at Shadowed Realms would like to reprint my story, Mean Street, in their forthcoming anthology, The Book of Shadows. It will feature fiction from the magazines first six issues and a few new pieces.
No details on the book yet, but it's a good way to start the morning. |
Yeah, Minz is a good guy, even if he is a Packer Fan. ;p |
So, your talk with Mr. Minz went well? |
I was only in for Saturday afternoon. Sunday I had to watch Monk with the grandaughters and then go eat mounds of Texas BBQ back in Houston. I do hope to make it next year. Maybe we can get Richard and Mark Hoover to come over. With Grant and I that would be 80% of the Jackson, MS Writer's Group. |
Nice meeting you too, Terry. Did you only make it in for Saturday? I looked around on Sunday but never saw you. |
It was nice to meet you and your lovely wife at Armadillocon, Josh. |
Yay! TOC- Sharing!
Congrats! |
Congratulations! |
Shadowed Realms has purchased my flash story "Flight" for publication sometime in the not too distant future.
I'm finally a Shadowed Realms repeat offender! |
Well, the Armadillocon panels have been announced. Here are the three opportunities I'll have to make a fool of myself:
Fr1700D New Directions in Heroic Fantasy Chester, McKiernan, J. Moore*, Rountree, Shinn Sa1500SD The Magic of Collaboration Benjamin, Elrod*, Eudaly, Rountree Su1000D Climbing the Fiction Ladder Kimbriel*, Nielsen Hayden, Rountree, W. J. Williams Man, that second panel has some stiff competition. Look what's across the hall at the same time: Sa1500R Good Weird Fiction Crider, Cupp, Lansdale, Marin, Minz, Trimm* Yep, you recognize some of those names... I think the last of my panels will be the most fun, and also the one that I can make the best contribution too. I'll be the before example... |
Thanks, Kaori! Glad you liked it. |
Josh, I loved "Friday Night Gods"--it's the kind of story I adore. So that's why everyone heads downtown on Friday nights. :P I really loved the last line and the name of the one god is perfect.
Kaori |
The audio version of "Friday Night Gods" has gone live at the Escape Pod site:
