Case Studies - Personal Injury

What follows is a sampling of the cases handled in recent months by the Clausen Law Firm and Mark Clausen:

California Man Settles Claim for Brain Injury Suffered on Billionaire’s Property

A California software programmer was working on the compound of a co-founder of Microsoft Corp.  While retrieving his tools, he fell into an unmarked hole in the equipment center of the main house.  His head hit the concrete subfloor and he suffered significant brain damage.  Despite significant prior injuries and other case complications, and despite a vigorous and sometimes nasty defense waged on behalf of the defendants, Mark Clausen and the client were able to settle the case out of court with a significant payment to the injured man.  They also were able to obtain a substantial reduction in the amount that was reimbursed to the applicable government agency that paid the client’s medical and rehabilitation bills.

Seattle Man Recovers for Assault by a Used Car Salesman

A Seattle man and his wife went to look at used cars.  They looked at a few but decided they were not really interested in any of the cars for sale.  The salesman grew irate and started yelling at them about wasting his time.  They tried to get into their car, but the salesman pulled the man out and started hitting him.  Bystanders pulled the salesman off the man, and he went to the emergency room for treatment.  Mark Clausen found an off-duty police officer and obtained a written statement, which undermined the salesman’s claim that there was a fight.  He was able to reach a significant private settlement with the car dealership, which netted the customer a significant recovery.

Kent Woman Recovers from Hit-and-Run Driver

A Kent woman was crossing a street in downtown Seattle when she was hit and knocked down by a car.  Her friend got the license number as the car sped off.  Surgery was required to repair her knee, but the driver denied he had hit the woman.  Mark Clausen sued the driver and the driver’s parents, who owned the car.  Despite the driver’s insistence that he had not hit the woman, she was able to receive a substantial settlement in mediation.

Auburn Woman Recovers for Damaged Kidney

An Auburn woman was a passenger involved in a high-speed auto accident.  Her kidney was ruptured and she required emergency surgery.  She spent six weeks confined to a bed.  Mark Clausen sued the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident and obtained a substantial settlement for the woman after mediation of the case.

Redmond Man Recovers Policy Limits

A Redmond man went out to a bar with a couple of friends.  They drank too much, then got in the car to go home, with the Redmond man as a passenger.  The intoxicated driver rammed into an embankment at high speed.  The Redmond man ended up in a body cast and was incapacitated for weeks.  Mark Clausen represented the man and obtained policy limits from two insurance policies without litigation.

Seattle Man Recovers from Bicycle Accident
