Cotswold Trips 2009.
Les Nelson - Event contact.
Cotswold Trips, we have been fortunate to be allowed the use of a small field at my friends farm, at Chipping
Norton, Oxfordshire there is plenty of room but numbers are strictly limited to 12 cars and campers to avoid
unnecessary problems with various authorities. A modest charge will be made by the farm owners to cover the
usual provision of facilities, i.e. Cut grass water supply elsan disposal.
Please do not apply for a place on the off chance you might come as it is not fair to those who CAN. I will
operate on first come first served basis with a follow on list in case of cancellations. I recommend the
purchase of “The Cotswolds & Gloucestershire” touring map essential really, see www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk
There are plenty of B&B; in the area if you prefer, try the Cotswold tourist web.
The format will be as per usual, we or individuals settle on a destination and each crew decides the route
to be taken, long or short, country lanes (recommended) or main roads, the rolling hills of the Cotswold’s are
not quite as challenging as the Welsh ones, but take note of the map signs for hills.
This is NOT a club tour but a friendly get together playing out with our toys, and although notified in
“our” magazine you would be welcome with a vintage/veteran car not necessarily a steamer, although SCCGB
members get priority, we aim to have fun.

2009 Steam Rally
The steam car section has been well supported by your UK and overseas members in the past.
This year the site will be changed to have a playpen like Dorset where there will be more
opportunity for the cars to be driven.
The Thursday road run will be a little different this year with a visit to Perranporth
Airfield (one of the best preserved 2nd world war airfields in the country) to establish a
new Cornish speed record for a steam powered vehicle-subject to sorting out the logistics of
such an event. I do have support from the local police though!
