Shelter is a registered charity that works to end homelessness and bad housing in Britain by helping people to know - and fight for - their rights. Shelter also aims to tackle the root causes of housing problems by campaigning for new laws, policies and solutions.

New housing code of practice
On 1 October 2006, the CRE's new statutory code of practice on racial equality in housing took effect. This new code replaced the previous CRE codes covering rented and owner-occupied housing.
There are three versions of the new code, covering England, Scotland and Wales. The code for Wales is available in English and Welsh.

Library of performance indicators
The Audit Commission and the Improvement and Development Agency have drawn up a range of 'off-the-shelf' quality approved performance indicators that authorities can use if appropriate to their local circumstances.
