The Hindustan Times Limited is India's foremost media company with a major presence for more than seven decades in the print medium. Some of the country's most respected and popular daily newspapers and magazines are published by the company. PRODUCTS

The Hindustan Times

The flagship publication of the group, The Hindustan Times (Delhi edition) was launched in September 1924. Mahatma Gandhi performed the inauguration and Shri KM Panikkar took over as the first editor. The Hindustan Times has the unique distinction of being the highest selling English daily in northern India within a month of its launch and has maintained this supremacy to date (current average circulation of 5,02,729 copies). The newspaper has a two-third readership share of all English newspapers published from Delhi. The newspaper symbolizes Delhi's emergence as one of the world's biggest metropolitan cities; it has grown with Delhi and Delhi has grown with it. The Hindustan Times is today not just a leading national daily, it is also a pillar of India's free Press. It has maintained its number one position in northern India primarily because of its tradition of credibility, authenticity, and the depth and width of its coverage. It has one of the biggest networks of correspondents in India and abroad reporting the latest developments from the spot, round the clock. The newspaper also has arrangements with several leading international publications and news agencies. Using state-of-the-art printing technology, The Hindustan Times is excellently produced, comprehensive and informative. The Patna edition of The Hindustan Times was launched in August 1986. The Lucknow edition was launched in June 1997.

Hindustan

The Delhi edition of Hindustan was launched in 1936. The Patna edition was started in August 1986 and within adecade became the largest circulated Hindi newspaper of eastern India (current average daily circulation of 2,55,284 copies). Hindustan is amongst the few respected national Hindi newspapers especialIy in northern central and eastern India. The paper's high standard of reporting and objective analysis presented in a user-friendly style places it in a class of its own. The Lucknow edition of Hindustan was launched in October 1996.

Evening News

Evening News is Delhi's most popular evening tabloid, eagerly looked forward to by readers. Launched in 1943, the Evening News carries a low down of the cap tar's high life and entertainment scene. It gives the readers the city buzz, loud and clear. All the scoops, gossip, business trends, campus news, crime beat, and parliamentary updates, feature in the page of Evening News.

Kadambini

Kadambini, a Hindi language monthly literary magazine was launched in 1960. Today, it is the most prestigious and widely circulated magazine of its genre. The magazine has a vast intellectual readership which also helps guide its editorial policy. Special issues on different subjects are brought out at pereodic intervals.

Nandan

Nandan - the children's monthly magazine in Hindi was launched in November 1964. It is the highest selling children's Hindi maga zine in India. Nandan acquaints and informs the new generation about India's glorious civiliza tion, heritage and cultural values. With a blend of Indian folklore, fairytales and abridged versions of great classics from the world of literature, Nandan both edu cates and entertains its young readers.


INFRASTRUCTURE

Advertising Marketing Network

The company has a dedicated national field force of advertisement marketing personnel who are in touch with advertisers and advertising agencies for securing advertisement business for all group publications. Latest media-modelling techniques are used to scientifically market space to advertisers.

Print-Production

The company has its own captive pre-press facility and printing plants which use state-of-the-art technology and printing hardware to produce its publications.

Distribution

The company distributes its newspapers and magazines using a countrywide distribution network comprising distribution agents, sub-agents, hawkers and home delivery boys. The total number of cities and towns in which the publications are distributed exceed 2000. Copies of the magazines are reached by mail to subscribers. For distribution of the dailies, the fastest available mode of delivery be it road, rail or air, is used to reach copies to readers in cities, towns and far-flung areas that fall outside the territory of the publishing centre.


GROWTH AND DIVERSIFICATION

It is the belief of the company that the future lies in the convergence between information, entertainment and advertising. The company's intent is to establish a firm hold on each of these emerging media opportunities, while consolidating and growing the existing business lines.

The Hindustan Times Ltd., along with Pearson plc, UK, Television Broadcast Ltd., Hong Kong, Carlton Communications plc, UK and Westpoint Media Holdings Ltd., Mauritius, have participated in the equity of two joint venture companies, TV India Ltd. to produce and export television software and TVM Ltd., Mauritius, for global marketing and distribution of television software.

TVM Ltd. Iaunched an information-cum-entertainment satellite television channel: Home TV in May 1996, which has already gained immense popularity in India within a short span of time.

The company is also planning to print and publish its newspapers from other principal cities of India.
