Environmental Information

Public authorities are obliged to provide access to information about the environment under the Environmental Info Regs 1992 (SI 3240) (as amended by the Environmental Information (Amendment) Regulations 1998.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) are currently responsible for overseeing these regulations. Therefore at the moment if you want up to date information about your rights under these regulations, or are concerned that information has not been provided in accordance with these regulations, you should contact DEFRA or visit their website at http://www.defra.gov.uk/.
However, a new set of regulations are being drafted by DEFRA. It is anticipated that when these new regulations come into force, the responsibility for enforcing them will be given to the Information Commissioner. |
