I admit they're not here. Will be changed shortly, if not already.

But on my website? Which one?

at http://www.robert-hole.com look for
"Original Designs now available through Worlds Away and World of Nature".

at http://www.ecologydesigns.com look for - anything, it's all me

at http://www.radio-sf.com look for the
"Worlds Away SF Shop Support the station! artwork, humor, and more"

and at http://www.biologybase.com look for
"Sponsored by Ecology Designs and the BiologyBase Shop"

How'd you miss 'em?

Hey Robert, why can't I find a permanent link to your CafePress stuff? I don't see one here, nor can I find one on your website.

"Ought to see!" Mmmm, your list in post 507730 is a very good place to start. Sounds good to me. Depends on how many days you plan to stay at each stop though. Things are sometimes few and far between here LOL.

Yep. Melbourne.

My current plan (three and a half years out) is to land in Perth, take the Indian-Pacific train to Adelaide, "pop" down to Melbourne by train, then do some sight-seeing after the con, including the Red Center and hopefully further afield. I'm still working on the "want to see" list, which will be pared down to "need to see" which will be paired down to "time to see" and "afford to see".

(a guy can dream)

Oh, no, he'd be *expecting* that! What we do is, we bring a fancy-schmancy CROWN, catch him and put it on him and carry him around the Con on a litter everywhere. Mere ganging-up isn't NEARLY as embarassing as being proclaimed RM King of the weekend!

Go for it, Robert! I myself am thinking if Worldcon's in Australia, I'll go. But I won't have nearly enough moolah for what it seems you might be planning. If I can get there, do the Con, and get back, I'll be doing very well indeed. But it would be fun to have an RM contingent there, wouldn't it?

Aparently, my post from earlier got eaten by my not taking care and posting after previewing, after forgetting after having a long time not posting here.

The book Carol speaks of in the previous post, for which I did the cover art, is available through my website.

In other news, I've decided that not only am I supporting the Australia bid for Worldcon in 2010, I'm going to Australia even if there's no Worldcon there. I'm starting to plan my trip already, partly 'cause I'm excitable about such things and partly because it's gonna take a lot of planning to earn enough money in only three and a half years for the trip I'm planning.

I will be arriving in Anaheim only one week from about right now. I'm excited.

Anyone going is welcome to find me after one of my panels (or any other time) and say hello.

I've got six panels, plus am working on both Match Game events (come to either, but the one after the Hugos should be a REAL hoot - no one under 18 allowed).

Also, I hope you'll come by the Hollister 2008 party on Wednesday night and remember to VOTE hollister 2008 as your number one choice for site selection. I'm told to remember that a write-in vote for Hollister in the number 1 slot does not effect the chances of your number 2 pick wining.

Thanks Roach and Robert. It is the appearance that matters. Just needed some confirmation that I wasn't being overly cautious (since I'll be questionwd on it by the author).

Now I'll have to find someone else to review it.

Well, this is a toughie. On the one hand, I've reviewed books by friends. On the other hand, I was never in the acknowledgements. On the *other* hand, not too long ago Norman Spinrad gave his ex-wife a favorable review in a major market--Asimov's, I think it was.

I think you can do it, but if you do I don't think the disclaimer can be a line in small font at the bottom of the review. I think you have to work your disclaimer into the body of the review. Be totally up-front and above-board. That's what Spinrad did, and I think it worked okay.

Yes I do. Subject hubby achieved his first loaf of sourdough bread yesterday! He made his own starter over the weekend using a kit he got through the internet, and it turned out *wonderfully*. It's a San Francisco recipe and included a little packet of some kind of flakes (presumably something to give it that San Francisco kick).

Think I'll leave this anonymous since you're being subfusc about it...
Message 486569 by Robert Hole, Jr. on 2006-06-08 12:13:09. Feedback: 0
Sourdough flavor varies from place to place due to the wild yeast inhabiting the starter. Transplanting starter from one location to another will, after only a couple weeks, result in local yeast taking over from the "original." This changes the flavor, sometimes considerably, even from the same starter patch. Therefore, if trying to get a certain regional flavor to your sourdough bread, you need to start with fresh starter from that region every couple of weeks (or, I was told, every couple of loaves).

Fortunately, failing long drives to weird and wonderful places involving chocolate and/or books, you can sometimes find what you need in your corner store when you're actually looking for bran muffin mix.

No question about it. You have to decline the review of the book, due to conflict of interest and possible lack of objectivity.
Otherwise, your review will be basically without merit, and worthless to the writer.
You could suggest another name to your writer friend as a reviewer.
Message 486429 by Robert Hole, Jr. on 2006-06-06 14:39:46. Feedback: 0
Okay. So I have this writer friend....

He's just published his first anthology (Shayton Rising), which I will be reviewing in the near future.

However - he put me in the acknowledgments for general writing encouragment and stuff.

I'll have to acknowledge that in any review I try to put out there, but how bad is it seen as if a reviewer is acknowledged?

Musing mostly, but responses are welcome.

Although having said that, the "bad wolf" scenario really takes shape in the next episode. Go figure! IMHO anyway.

Conzilla (Westercon, San Diego, June 30-July 4). I have an opportunity to go if I raise (essentially) free crash-space.

I can can offer a ride to or from, from California places between roughly S.F. and S.D. in return.

I'm driving from the San Francisco area.

The quirkiness in my finances during my current unemployment say I can afford the gas and food, but not contribute much if anything to housing.

Well, BayCon won't take me as a panelist again this year. Though this year I did get an acknowledgement of my (admitted late) "offer". They did suggest trying things I've tried before if I really wanted to be a panelist.

WorldCon (LACon) has (same day as above) invited me.

Ain't life silly?

I'm going to be at World Horror Con this weekend. Should be fun fun fun!!! Three conventions in three weeks - WHC, TerryCon, BayCon. Wow!

I have a letter in the current (#77) issue of The Drink Tank.

Okay, so it's not a story, but at least I have writing in print somewhere.

I wrote a book review today, does that count? It's a non-fiction book on teleportation.

Now if I could figure out somewhere to send it....

There's evening stuff I wouldn't mind doing, but I do so badly trying to sleep in con hotels that for Baycon I'm really better off doing the 12 mile drive from my place. At that distance it's a lot less tiring for me to commute. I'm even better off doing it by public transport (apart from the year I was ill one night and someone was kind enough to take me home).

The 40 mile commute to my local con in the UK was at the nuisance/petrol cost level where I stayed in the hotel if a room was available, but did not book a room in advance the couple of years when I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go until the week of the con. Less hassle driving than dealing with extracting myself from a room share at short notice.

Unfortunately I live a quarter tank of gas (each way) away. And while not a party dude, I occassionally like to do some of the evening stuff (like the dive-in movies).

I always commute to Baycon. It's partly the idea of spending that much money on a hotel when I don't live that far away and am not a party animal anyway, but I don't sleep very well in con hotels. :-(
