Short Course on High-Tech Entrepreneurship
Getting ideas from the lab to the marketplace will be the focus of "Creating a New High-Technology Venture: A Short Course for the Aspiring Entrepreneur," a series of seminars to be held Jan. 9 through 11 in the Executive Education Center at Georgia Tech's DuPree College of Management.
Cosponsored by the DuPree College, Tech's College of engineering and the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, the two-and-a-half-day course is designed to give scientists and engineers new to entrepreneurship the tools they need to start business ventures based on new products or technologies. Cost for the course, including tuition, all educational materials and breakfast and lunch all three days, is $895.
"The audience for this course is very tech-savvy, but when it comes to taking technology and making it into a business, they need some guidance," said Rena Moyers, assistant executive director of marketing services for the Alumni Association.
Among the topics to be covered are recognizing opportunity, developing a strategy, setting milestones and financing a venture, as well as intellectual property issues and the characteristics of a smart entrepreneur.
DuPree faculty will teach the program along with expert guest lecturers in the fields of intellectual property and high-technology venture creation. Participants will learn the basics of a strong business plan, the opportunities and challenges an entrepreneur faces in today's economy, the legal issues of creating a new venture and protecting intellectual property and how to recognize a potential market opportunity and develop a business strategy.
