Insomnia

Sleep is important for clusterheads. When in cycle, it is hard to get good sleep. Messed up sleep creates an opening for the beast to attack. A few thoughts on dealing with insomnia.

Melatonin and Herbs


One of the best ways of treating insomnia is a low dose of Melatonin.

Many herbs are used to treat insomnia, although they may not be enough for everyone. Passionflower, Hops, Chamomile, and Catnip are all good choices. Avoiding Caffeine in the afternoon and evening should be a first choice.

Yoga

Daily Yoga practice was shown to help with different forms of insomnia (text (cache)). Tibetan yoga helps with insomnia (text (cache)).

Other Non-Drug Techniques

An overview of non-pharmacological treatments for insomnia found evidence that the following were effective: progressive relaxation, stimulus control, and paradoxical intention. About a week ago I got a copy of Andrew Weil's CD ((Breathing: )). The breathing exercises have helped me relax and have improved the quality of my sleep.

A warm bath with a pound of epsom salts may be a good idea, although some people find heat is a trigger for their cluster headaches.
