Jack Stehlin founded Circus Theatricals in New York in 1983, and has produced over 40 plays in NYC and Los Angeles.

ACTOR / STAGE CREDITS
For Circus Theatricals, Jack has appeared in Harm's Way, Alceste in The Misanthrope, and the Man in the world premiere of Shem Bitterman's The Circle. Los Angeles
Recent Circus Theatricals/Odyssey Theatre Los Angeles stage credits include the title role in Macbeth (which he also directed), the title role in Tartuffe (LA Weekly Award for Best Ensemble and Best Actor nomination), the title role in Richard III directed by Casey Biggs (Garland Award and a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nominations), Lee in Sam Shepard's True West (which he also directed), the title role in Hamlet (directed by Casey Biggs) and 'Scapin' in Moliere's The Cheats of Scapin (which he also directed and co-adapted). Jack won a Garland Award and a Leading Male Performance nomination for the LA Weekly Awards for his performance of "Jim" in The Job. He also played the role Off-Broadway at the WPA. Other Circus Theatricals credits include Sir Toby Belch in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (which he also directed and won a Garland Award) , Orgon in the Spring '98 production of Tartuffe (which he also directed), Alceste (as well as directed) the Hudson Guild’s production of The Misanthrope (Drama-Logues for Performance and Direction, Garland for Performance),.Other Los Angeles credits include Charlie Fox in the Los Angeles premiere of Speed-the-Plow at the Odyssey Theatre (for which he garnered a Drama-Logue and Garland Award for Outstanding Performance), Chicken in Tennessee William’s The Kingdom of Earth at The Hudson (1996 Garland for Outstanding Performance Award), and Horton Foote’s West Coast premiere of The Habitation of Dragons directed by Crystal Brian at the Zephyr Theatre (for which he received a 1995 LA Weekly Award).

New York
Jack played Stanley on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs directed by Gene Saks. Off-Broadway, in New York, he directed and played Macbeth at (C.S.C.) the Classic Stage Company.

At the New York Shakespeare Festival, he played Mowbray in Steven Berkoff’s production of Richard II, The Dauphin in Henry V with Kevin Kline (directed by Wilford Leach), and played Count De Bernis opposite Ethan Hawke in Casanova by Constance Congdon, directed by Michael Greif, played Sir Richard Vernon opposite Mandy Patinkin in Henry IV, I directed by Des McAnuff, Julius Caesar with Al Pacino and Martin Sheen, Alcibiades in Timon of Athens directed by Brian Kulick, Richard Foreman’s Don Juan, and Romeo and Juliet directed by Les Waters. Mr. Stehlin appeared previously at CSC in Phaedra Brittanica, Don Juan and The Learned Ladies (all directed by Carey Perloff) .

At Primary Stages, Mr. Stehlin created the role of Bobby in Matthew Witten’s Washington Square Moves, a play he previously read at the O’Neill Playwright’s Conference, of which he is an actor member.

Regional and International
A former member of the American Repertory Theater, Mr. Stehlin played Apollo in Robert Wilson’s Alcestis, which was also featured in the Festival D’Automne in Paris; Truffaldino in Andre Serban’s The King Stag, which also played the Venice Bienale; JoAnne Akalitis’ The Balcony; Robert Brustein’s Six Characters; and created the role of Bobby Nobis in William Hauptman’s Gillette, directed by David Wheeler. At Hartford Stage, Mr. Stehlin played Sam Draycott in the American premiere of Hidden Laughter by Simon Grey, directed by Mark Lamos.

With John Houseman's The Acting Company, Jack played Damis in Tartuffe (directed by Brian Murray), Orsino in Twelfth Night (directed by Michael Langham), and Cleon in Pericles (directed by Toby Robertson).

Other regional credits include Philadelphia Drama Guild, Indiana Rep, Milwaukee Rep, Paper Mill Playhouse, Baltimore Center Stage, Missouri Rep, and Stamford Center of the Arts (again with Al Pacino in Salome).

TV and film credits include Guest Starrring roles on "Monk," "Without A Trace," "NCIS," “JAG,” (recurring), “Buffy the Vampire Slayer ” (recurring ), “Judging Amy,” “The Practice,” “Crossing Jordan,” “NYPD Blue,” “ER,” “Blackout Effect,” “Get Real,” (Fox)“General Hospital,” (ABC) and “The Client” for Warner Bros. His voice can heard on A&E, including the voice of John Wilkes Booth on A&E’s “The John Wilkes Booth Story.” Jack continues his role this season as Captain Roy Till on the Showtime series "Weeds."

Jack Stehlin has directed himself as St. Just in Danton’s Death at the Rapp Arts Center (NYC). Other directing credits include The Stronger and No Exit at The Acting Company Studio (N.Y.C.), Hedda Gabler at A.T.A(N.Y.C.)., Driving Miss Daisy at Stages Rep Theatre in Houston where he served as Artistic Director in ’88-’89, Speed-the-Plow at the Alley Theatre in Houston, and My Sister in this House for the Juilliard School fourth year repertory.

WRITER
Jack Stehlin co-adapted The Cheats of Scapin (with Jeannine [Welles] Stehlin for Circus Theatricals and The Odyssey Theatre and Georg Buchner's Danton's Death at New York's The Rapp Arts Center

TEACHER
Jack Stehlin currently teaches the Circus Theatricals Studio Ensemble. He is also Visiting Associate Professor in the UCLA Department of Theater for Winter 2005.

EDUCATION
Mr. Stehlin is a graduate of The Juilliard School and an alumnus of John Houseman’s The Acting Company.
