Spam! 90% of internet residents hate it and the other 10% seem to be determined to make money by sending out large volumes of it. If your email address is anywhere to be found online, you're getting spam. Email programs which display internet pages without warning, like Outlook Express does, make it even worse by displaying porn and obnoxious ads without warning. Have you checked email in front of your children, only to have an unexpected porn ad pop up? These web pages can even reset the homepage shown by your browser and pop up more browser porn windows. The two popular ways of fighting spam seem to be the War technique and the Filtering technique. You can declare war on spam, blocking domains, reporting spammers to their internet providers, and passing their addresses to spam fighting organizations. Do a search on spam, and you will find many sites which devote themselves to the war on spam. The simple truth, though, is that most of us just don't have time to wage all out war on spam. The second technique is to use filtering software to check your email before you use your regular email program. But, two bad things happen with filtering software. You'll get email messages deleted that weren't really spam, and any filtering program is going to miss filtering some spam. An example: your friend sends you a message with the subject saying, "Here's the info on the adult classes you wanted". Your filtering program sees the word "adult" in the subject line, and deletes the message. Lots of spam is sent from a new email address every day, with subject lines like "Here's the information you asked for". Filtering programs won't stop such spam. There's just no substitute for reviewing all your email, so De-Spammer takes a different approach.
De-Spammer is the sensible way to quickly gather and remove spam. De-Spammer retrieves and displays only messages from UNKNOWN senders (from up to 10 pop accounts). It shows each message sender and subject in a multiple select listbox, and one click of a button will remove all the messages it found. Select messages in the listbox to save them, and as you do, De-Spammer saves the sender's address to its known address file, so messages from the same sender will never be displayed by De-Spammer again. If you’re unsure about a message in the listbox, just select it, and De-Spammer will display the message contents (text only, no picture surprises). If it is, indeed, spam, click it again to unselect it. You can choose to delete only messages which are unselected in the listbox, delete all the messages, or neither. By screening mail from unknown senders before running your regular email program, you can quickly and safely remove spam, and not have to delete it one message at a time in your regular email program, where it is mixed in among your other email, or wonder if your filtering program deleted messages which weren’t spam at all. Also, because De-Spammer handles all email messages as text only, and doesn't do html or attachments, it will never receive or run an email virus. It will also never display porn or obnoxious ad pictures. Use it to get rid of them before you get a surprise display from your regular email program. It's the perfect way to review and screen your email.
You can set De-Spammer to place its icon in the system tray when Windows starts for quick access anytime, or just run De-Spammer from your Start Menu. By default, De-Spammer runs your default email program after it
has connected and removed your spam. You can set it to run another program, or not to run anything at all.
The shareware version of De-Spammer has a registration reminder screen, when you connect to retrieve email. There are no other nags, and the program is fully functional. For just $10 you can register De-Spammer, and receive the code which removes the nag by email (and not worry about some filtering program deleting the email before you see it).
