The Masterplan
The proposed Masterplan illustrates the relationship of existing buildings with new buildings and spaces. The removal of Colet House, the Headmaster's House and the Junior Music School create the opportunity for a new open space along the Thames due to a net reduction of two buildings. New buildings of architectural merit will further enhance the river frontage.
The School remains compact; both Schools have their own external quad and internal atrium at their heart.
Facing Castelnau, the mass of the buildings will be broken down with external courtyards and a reduction in height. Planting along the new access drive and site frontage enhances the view from Lonsdale Road.
The Staff Housing faces Lonsdale Road and the existing driveway, replacing the existing unattractive structures. Further landscape enhancements to the edge of the site complete the vision.
The Masterplan will have further benefits which are:
1 safer traffic circulation, access and servicing;
2 rationalised sports facilities;
3 the Sports Hall screened by new buildings;
4 flexibility of layout to meet changing educational demands.
The plan is based on an assumption that pupil and staff numbers do not change. Key changes are:
Building footprint increase | 3119 m2 maximum
Building area increase | 15418 m2 maximum
Remaining CLASP buildings | 3714 m2
Net increase in Staff Housing | 17
Reduction in car parking spaces | 4
Increase in cycle spaces | 60 |
