Codependency
Individual Groups For Women and Men
Codependent people struggle with the compulsion to
rescue and
take care of others. They often have
difficulty setting boundaries. They
often have difficulty recognizing their own worth, because they define
their worth by successfully helping others. They are worried about how
other people perceive them. They are continually trying to please other
people – particularly the most important people in their lives.
Codependents expend so much energy dealing with these things that they
become exhausted and have very little energy left for themselves. These
people need outside help to solve this problem.
The help offered by Celebrate Recovery is spiritual. It starts
with turning one’s life and will over to the care and control of Jesus
Christ. The codependent person acknowledges they have a problem, and
they have not been able to put it under control. They recognize that
Jesus Christ is their loving Higher Power, and He will provide all the
resources needed to overcome their issues.
After declaring Jesus Christ as Higher Power, the codependent
person follows up by attending weekly Celebrate Recovery meetings. In
these meetings they learn how to identify their underlying issues
causing their behavior. They also learn how to appropriate God’s power
in eliminating them. They learn how to forgive those who have hurt them
and to make amends to all the people they have hurt. They learn
how to change their focus from pleasing other people in unhealthy ways
to valuing others in appropriate ways. The result is lasting freedom and
permanent victory.
